If you have recently received correspondence from the NRA wanting you to sign-up for their free magazines, and have them electronically delivered....don't.

It's waaaay to convoluted to get a grasp of. I am sooooo sorry I agreed to go this route when I got their letter. Hopefully, I can find a way out of it. After looking at the last 4 issues on-line, I want to get it back in my hands once again.

I'm all for saving paper, trees, whales, Bambi, whatever , but most definitely not in this case.

I signed up for the electronic, and haven't received one yet. I was kind of wondering how long it would take.

What exactly is the issue you are having? Hard to read because of small print when an entire page is displayed at once? What media type do they use; Adobe? Olive?

I signed up for it also and did not like it si went back on the site and changed it back to the printed version. Have since received the printed version again,I do not recommend the electronic and I have a 27 inch IMac to view it on. I also tried Shooting Sportsman's electronic version, did not like it either, seemingly gun mags do not lend themselves well to electronic transmission.

It's all on-line web pages. You see the cover when your email arrives, and links to the inside stories. Either the page is too small to read, or you use the available magnifier, and it's to large ( scroll side to side to read ).

There's a Search engine to search for an article the email says is included(?). A menu too small to read on the left with contents. You also have to magnify it to see what it is. It also contains upper and lower scrolls. Clicking on one of the available photos of pages then fills your PC screen, if you don't want to read the article, or want to read it later, you start all over again.

At the top are Icons for Email It...Print...download as PDF..Table of Contents, Archive, and more.

Look, I just want to read the book. If an article is continued on page xx, I want to go to that page NOW, not search on-line for it.

It may have been a good idea at the time, but some IT took it way out there in the finished product.

I much prefer the actually printed on paper version... much easier to read in the bathroom than the laptop edition.

I read mine in the bathroom also-----kinda hard dragging the "old" desk-top in there.
It is all coming to this electronic thingy but as Ben franlin said--don't ever be the first to do anything + they got a long way to go to work out the bugs.

I had a trial of the "Shooting Sports" magazine they put out for competitors, listing all the upcoming competitions over a year ago. I was told it would now only be available in electronic version. I dropped it. I couldn't handle all the maneuvering around the page to read it. Had to increase the size just to be able to read it, then had to scroll down the page, then had to scroll up the page to see the 2nd column. That's way too much work and opportunity for carpal tunnel and eyestrain.

I was promised one time the Rifleman magazine would never be only electronic. Let's hope so.

I have not tried NRA publications; but I get Wolfe pubs Handloader, rifle, and Successful Hunter as downloadable PDFs. Wolfe got it right; click on a title or page no in the contents and you are right there. Plus I can carry several pubs on my iPad while I travel or download when away from home. Electronic mags can work but not if they are not user friendly.

I'm still getting paper, but I barely glance at it.

I tried a digital subscription of a um mens magazine...hey it was free. I absolutely hated it! The picture quality just blows! My eye's are still good enough that I can see the individual pixels in a computer screen and that gives all the images a screen door effect. Ya I read the articles too...really! But I spend so much time in font of a monitor as it is...it's nice to pick up and read a printed article once in a while.

I see NRA made their kids Insight publication only available in digital now. This might be petty, but the day they say I can no longer get the printed edition of American Rifleman is the day I am no longer an NRA member.

Funny how some of us think alike.

Power shortage, light hurricane lamp or candle, have a seat, and enjoy.

In fact, one may say I have a mini library set up in the head.

I just don't like reading ELECTRONIC MAGAZINES Period. Give me my magazine, I read in bed and then go to sleep. More people need to read REAL BOOKS too.

I switched to the electronic and like it. Saves NRA much needed funds, but I like it because they have links all throughout the magazine you can click on to see videos and more on stories and items if you like. Also, I forward the e-mail to my son,s e-mail address and he can read it right away.(Don,t have to wait a week till I,m through with the magazine)

I prefer the printed version; it's just easier to read and more portable as others have noted. I've been patient and trying to get used to the electronic version, but it just isn't working for me.

There are two advantages with the electronic version however. One is the embedded videos; and the other is that you can save the whole magazine or individual articles in pdf format.

I've tried printing these articles though, and they print on at least twice as many pages as the published article. Overall I don't think I'm saving trees because when I do print something, it takes my ink and lots of paper.

Just e-mailed the NRA yesterday requesting the print version. I just can't get comfortable with the e-version although I've tried.

Don't do anything digital under the schtick of saving trees. Trees are an invaluable and infinitely renewable resource. They are simply a type of long-term agriculture (silviculture, actually). There are more trees and growing stock in this country now than anytime in recent history. Trees are the type of resource we NEED to take advantage of and provide a huge employment base in the U.S. Do not confuse the rain forest destruction with well-managed forests - there should be no guilt in utilizing trees for our lumber and paper products.

And besides - paper's recyclable!

Get ready for it. It's coming and there is nothing us oldtimers can do about it. I knew the end was near when they quit delivering milk to my doorstep.

Speaking of getting use it it, the U. S. Postal Service is on its way out, too. I thought of a great bumper sticker to save the post office.

It works great on the iPad or the iPhone. I can read it in the bath room or in the quilt shop while I wait for the wife. I do not like the fact that I have to keep the email as I cannot save the .pdf.

I accept the digital edition only when they quit printing the magazine.

I ain't interested in changing any sooner.

I read American Handgunner and Guns mags on line. They've got the lay out right and I don't mind having to move around the page to read it all. When I first heard about the NRA doing the Rifleman in digital form I was for it till I found out it would be $5 a month. I don't know if it's the same now but they're wanting extra money for a digital edition seems kinda silly since they still charge the advertisers and that's who really pays for the mag in the first place. I'll keep the paper edition for now.

I do NOT CARE to read magazines or large ads (many/many pages) in an online format.

I prefer to hold the magazine or book myself.

Got that right! Just like flipping pages. Something about a nice book. I get too much eye strain on a computer screen, Just not the same as sitting in a comfy chair or bed with a good book or even a Magazine. Mrs Rule has her Kindle I have my books.

Same with those E catalogs or fliers I much prefer the paper version.

NOW you tell me. I let myself go for this 4 months ago and I've regretted it ever since. I have deleted the last two months after only the briefest of cursory glances. If you learn of a way to get back to receiving the paper issues please post it up. I'll be glad to get it back; Thanks!

Being the OLD FART that I am I am not ready to give up reading actual Newspapers, Magazines, books, or periodicals. No interest in a kindle or reading publications on line. I still have one of those old fashioned cell phones that is NOT an iPhone or Droid. Mine just makes phone calls.

If you are constipated and pushing hard, the most you will do to the magazine is wrinkle the pages...but if you crack your ipad screen, you're out 5 bills.
