Default What are the odds ??

I recently bought a new scope for my favorite squirrel rifle (1416 Anschutz .22LR). I set the scope in the rings and eye-balled down the bore to hopefully have it close enough to hit paper when I had time to sight it in.

Today I took it to the range to zero it in. I set the target up at 30 yds.....(my favorite distance for tree-rats). I fired 5 shots and "lo and behold" they all hit the target dead-center in a group you could cover with a nickle . No adjustments needed at all !!!

I don't know about others, but I have never in my life put a new scope on a rifle and not have to make sighting adjustments to get it zeroed!!

Obviously just luck .....but has this happened to anyone else ??

Don

Obviously a Zen moment when you were in tune with the alignment of all things...

I once rebarreled a Remington 700 in.243 with a takeoff factory barrel as the original had been shortened for some reason. Trued the action, lapped the lugs, reset headspace. Put it back in the stock and remounted the scope without making any adjustments. The rifle shot cloverleaf groups with the same handload and to the same P.O.I. the owner used before rebarreling. Never seen anything like it before or since.

I cannot even get a scope adjusted when I am sitting at the shooting bench trying to adjust it.

You lucked out.

I never had to make no adjustments, but When I put a new Leupold 4X on my Kimber of Oregon S-Series Mod 82 using Kimber Rings It was off less than 1" in either direction and took minimal adjustment. A lot of it is luck, but I think you might get lucky more often with precision machined equipment like your Anschutz.

I was at the range some time in the last year to check out two revolvers that had had work done on them-basically to zero them. I was "interupted" by someone who I felt I should talk to about something that had happened to me at a hospital that he worked at. By the time we were finised, I had very little time left to shoot, and I hadn't fired the first round. I felt like the Lord said, "Just go ahead," so that's what I did with a strong conformation that both guns would shoot to POI-they did, I never put a screw driver to them. One after the other they blew the center of the targets out-I believe I still have the targets with the information written on them. When I put His business first, He always takes care of mine-well, He always takes care of me, but you know what I mean (?). Flapjack.

Back when I was much younger I worked as a gas pump jockey for Sohio. Had a custumer come in who needed a full set of tires and was pressed for time. Since this was a commision sale I was quite pleased to fill his need with a set of Goldenaire Radials. Start to finish I had all 4 tires mounted and balanced in 15 minutes flat. BTW, this was done using a Bubble balancer, which can take a bit of time. Two of those tires showed perfect balance when mounted without any weights needed at all. Does that count?

BTW, if you can either remember Sohio or the Atlas Goldenaire Radials, you're an old fart just like me. Back then I was so well trained I once answered the phone with "Hello, fill it up with Boron?" and the Sohio VP calling to check on his oil change got a good chuckle from that.
