Adrenaline Rush
Ok so yesterday was just another day. Your typical 8-5 work day, get home to your kids, run errands with the wife and kids... One of our stops was to my wife's grandmothers house to drop of some cookie dough for my daughters school fundraiser. While we are their her grandmother and I have a conversation about the reoccurring break ins and home invasions that have been getting more frequent in the past 2 months. I specifically remember saying "I hope know one breaks in to my house, or they are gonna meet my .40, and it's not gonna be a nice meeting"... We chuckled
Pulling into my driveway around 9:00 p.m. I noticed our front door was wide open and lights were off. Surely this can't be happening right after we talked about it 10 minutes prior... right? So I told my wife to get in the drivers seat, keep the car running and lock the doors. I went into my house, heart beating erratically went straight to my closet where my gun safe is and retrieved my gun and chambered a round. Next I went and closed the front door and locked it. Thinking if someone was in my house I would hear them open the door and I wanted to prevent that person getting close to my family. Next I searched every closet, attic and basement space in my house. Luckily there was know one in our house and nothing was stolen. Everything was still in it's place as it was before we left. Don't know who or what if anything came into our house
That was an adrenaline rush like I never experienced before. And is it weird that I liked it? I just wanna tip my hat to active and non active military, police men and women who do this type of work on a day to day basis to protect complete strangers. It takes a special person to be in that line of work
THANK YOU!!!

Glad you and family are okay, but IMHO your course of action should NOT have been to enter your home. Dial 911 and let the police check it out. What if someone HAD been in there and gotten to you before you got to your gun? What happens to your wife then?

I surely don't know Ohio Gun Laws, but do they allow concealed carry? The .40 wasn't doing you any good if you had to remove it from a safe.
Your very lucky no one was in the house.
I agree with other comment, call 911.

I agree with the above advice. You need to come up with a better plan. You could be dead and then what kind of protection would you be for your family? If someone is willing to kill you who do you think is gonna be next?
You got a big life insurance policy?

Knowing there were break-ins in your area, why weren't you carrying, legal or not? Your dang lucky you made it to the safe, you could be dead.

Wood,
That Adrenaline Rush was nothing like the adrenaline rush, shakes and jitters you would get if you had to pull the trigger on another person. Trust me, its something you can do without. But I understand.

I carry a Chiefs Special 99.9% of the time. If I thought someone was in my home, I don't know if I would tackle it with just the j-frame. I know I wouldn't go in unarmed. Nothing I own is worth my life.

Glad you're alive
I've been in too many bad situations to "armchair quarterback" you. Things just happen and there isn't always a lot of time for clear thinking.
But now that you have this one to look back on, you may not want to jump in unarmed.
