We do a Gunsite course at my Dojo where I am assistant range master.
Some times schedules don't allow students to shoot through all the range days and other times a select one or two catch the bug and really like it, but don't own a firearm of their own.
I gather up all these strays and offer a day or two a year to get together for an unofficial shoot.
Tomorrow we'll meet at the Davis Range in San Leandro. There is indoor, outdoor pistol to 50 yards and rifle to 100 yards.
Not the finest range in our area, but convenient to the members and it offers us an indoor range for the 1911's and 44Spls I intend to offer.
I'm bringing the 1911 as that's our main training tool, but I go off program and always bring revolvers.
I'm going to bring a 3" and 4" 624 no dash, a 4" 586 and a 627-0, a 6"
29-3 Classic Hunter, an accurized Mini 30 lobbing custom 150g CoreLokt's and a Marlin 1894 44 - pre cross bolt safety. Oh yeah, a 5" Ruger Mk II to get everyone back on target before we hit the center fire ordnance. It feels and operates just like a 1911, so there's a lot to recommend it.
I'm looking forward to this. Maybe next year I'll renew my hunting license and get back in the woods again, but until then, this is a great way to get together and do some shooting.
Specials in the 1894 feel like black powder, no recoil to speak of and a big slug accurately delivered. Should be just right for the lady folk.
