Default Question on downloading book / 846 M

I would like to download a book for some research, but the PDF file size says 846 M. I am guessing that means 846 megabytes?

If so that seems like a very large file. My computer is seven years old and my internet connection/speed is "ok". Would I be risking anything (computer crash?) in attempting to download such a file?

Thanks,

John Gross

John

You have a couple problems to address..

If you'er not at cable speed or hi-dsl it will take a long time.

Some, if not all ISP's now throttle users that exceed their "limits" of up & down load bandwidth. If you have a monthly limit this file will probably blow it..

If you can beat the above, you can:

a)start the down load late at night and hope your ISP has some spare bandwidth after hours

b)find software that can restart the down load at the last good transfer. So if you do lose the line you don't start from scratch. there are a bunch out there.. Google "software download restart", 48 gazilllion hits..

c)try to find the file on cd and buy it

Good luck..

One (1) standard CD disc is 700 mg, to give you a idea. So the book is a pretty large download, they usually put something like that in a PDF file or a zip file.

If you do not have a fast internet speed or a puter with a lot of memory it may be difficult to download.
Perhaps a library system and you could download to a jump/thumb drive?

I schedule my big downloads (yes, that big) for the middle of the night when Hughes suspends the download limit. I usually get them first try, but occasionally it'll barf and I'll have to try again another night.
