Default How old is this???

This came with the rifle; I've had it for years and have thought about shooting it, but always wonder if it might be worth some thing. It's a complete box.

If you leave the brass rounds in the leather cartridge slide, they'll turn green and get rather nasty in short order - just a heads up.

Box of old Krag ammo - maybe 60 dollars? Current production stuff hovers around 30 for point of contrast. I suppose on a good day with someone that really wants a box of period ammo to display with their Krag you could get 80 or more.

Shoot it.
The box is not rare, shows lots of wear, and has tape on it.
So you will spend more time trying to get a premium than it is worth. Collectors don't want it, and a shooter wouldn't pay as much as the price of fresh, clean ammo.
Shoot it.

Shoot it at something worth more than 60 bucks and you won't feel so bad.

The child safety warning was added to ammunition boxes in 1962 (Gov't requirement), so the box is no earlier than that.

Thanks Guys, That's the way I was thinking.
I put the rounds in the carrier for the picture, but think I'll leave them there until after the big Thanksgiving meal and then go "Unload 'em" out back, with my 93 year old Granddad. His eyesight is great but he doesn't need hearing protection any more.
At least the Rifle will be older than him.
It's a Model 1898.

I have been a cartridge collector for 45 years now so I do have some experence. My vote is not to shoot it. Though not rare, not very valuabe @$25 tops in the condition shown. It is still neat ammo. Use it as display. Clean the ammo with a soft rag and lighter fliud but dont polish. Definately remove the ammo from the leather holder. The box was made from 1963 till @ 1969. Just a neat old accsessory to a classic gun.

yes. in 10 years if this post was dug up, people would see why there were no affordable cool old boxes of ammo around, w/the general consensus now saying to go ahead and shoot it.
at least keep the box, tape be damned.
