Who else is working today?
Am I the only one working today? Well..... not working right now but on call 24/7 until Monday morning. So far, I have found carelessness and stupidity still abounds on the highways.
Happy Thanksgiving to all, working or not.

Thank you! (and all first responders) who give your personal time so the rest of us can be safer.
I'm working today, the glory of being self employed is no paid time off.

Work is a four letter word that I no longer allow in my vocabulary.

worked today, but not a holiday here. Surprisingly, turkey is actually hard to find in Turkey. Had to settle for a bowl of the deep friend deliciousness that is mantı and a few glasses of rakı. 7 months until i am back home

I too am self-employed. Gonna be doing about 12 hours of surveillance today.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.

My sympathies to those working today
One of the many benefits of being on-call 24/7, is that you can miss holidays with no extra effort involved.
Hope I get called for a Minn. run, rather than Chicago. Don't
need the added stress of gazillions of motorists all going wherever.

Working 4pm-midnight. Had a nice Thanksgiving lunch with my entire family. That's the way most holidays go for me.

My brother is LEO and also working the baker shift (3-11) today. Normally, the suburb he works in is relatively slow on holidays, but the most common call he sees on holidays is always domestic disputes. God Bless you guys/gals who work fire and police, EMS and military. Thank you for your sacrifice, and the time away from your families.

Domestic disputes is common on any holiday.
However this seems like a banner day across the US for people getting killed while breaking into homes. We had one in the local area and I got media releases on three others, all on Thanksgiving Day. All were killed in senseless crimes due to stupidity.

When I was a cop, I always volunteered to work on Holidays so the married guys with family to be with the kids. No big deal for me, but I hoped it would be for them.

I worked most holidays for many years. The exception was when the holiday fell on my off days.
I'm off for four days straight, BUT I don't get paid for Friday-bummer.

Worked every holiday for the last 43 years. Retired in Sept so this is my first holiday off. The only bad one was getting up at 6:00am to go on the day shift New Years Day after a night of drinking. Now that I don't drink any more I have New Years day off.

Well stated. I have worked the holidays, often voluntarily, for 30 years. Once the kids were grown it wasn't a big deal. Overtime is nice, and it gave the guys with little ones at home a chance to be there.
So I'm, sitting here in the ghetto, listening to distant gunfire and sirens, silently thanking our servicemen and women for signing on the dotted line so the rest of us can be free to eat, drink, fight, and watch football........and go back for seconds.

I was on call Thanksgiving as well and took the chance and had family for dinner here. I didn't get a single call which was a surprise but welcome.
I worked Black Friday too but am off the weekend.

I have a customer that needed some parts to wrap up an engine overhaul this weekend. Even though I had the day off I rounded up the parts and made the 2 hour round trip to make sure he was taken care of. It also got me out of going to the new Twilight move so I was happy to do it...

Before I retired, I looked forward to working the three days after Thanksgiving and the week after Christmas. I could get an unbelievable amount of paperwork done - without any phone calls, meetings, any distractions whatsoever. It was always unpaid, but it sure made things better afterward. I don't miss it at all.

I was scheduled to work yesterday and today. However, having used a little skillful vacation planning, I'm off until Sunday .

Give Thanks
Got up at 6:45am on T-day, worked 7:30am til 4pm. Cooked an 11lb. turkey in a "Ronco Showtime" rotisserie with all of the trimings for the skells while bartending alone. Since we were the only bar open for miles around you can imagine I was fairly busy. Listened to the drunken b.s. until I thought my head would explode (someone actually asked me what I was cooking!?!) and had to cut off 4 different stupes before noon. Limped home to a crowd of 14 waiting for me to start carving THAT turkey (thanks to my dear wife for making that incredible feast!). Guests finally left at 10:30pm and I took my mother-in-law home, returned around 11:15pm and passed out at midnight. The phone rang at 7am, 8am, and 8:30am so I got out of bed and ran "errands". Brought my folks their fake tree and decorations so we could go over at 5pm and trim it. I got back at 10pm and got some stuff ready for work. It's after 2am now and I don't even know why I'm up typing this when my alarm is set to go off in 4 1/2 hours and I have a 9 hour shift today. I have to read at 8:30am mass on Sunday and then work 5pm til 2am, I'll be home by 3am and will get precisely 5 hours of sleep Monday morning before I get up to take my mom-in-law to a doctor check-up at 9am. I'll be THANKFULL when this long weekend is OVER!!!
Still, I suppose it could be worse...

Six days a week 12 hours per day here in Skopje.I get Sundays off. Working Thanksgiving and the day after. I prefer to be in a deer camp, but the money is good. Beats Iraq and Afghanistan where I spent a few years. Money was good there too but sometimes they were shooting at us. And the people here in the Balkans don't smell as bad as in the Middle East. Going to try to take a couple of days off around Christmas.
