Default Why the Internal Lock

Just wondering. I haven't met, or even heard of anybody who wants the IL on a gun. And I've met and heard many who strongly dislike the IL.
It could be I'm just talking to the wrong people. But if so, I've sure got unlucky, because I talked to pretty many.
Wouldn't it make sense that S&W eliminate this feature if their customers don't want it and it's an extra expense to produce?
What's the reasoning behind this?

To dissuade people from buying new guns thereby inflating the price of our collections.

In May of 2001, Saf-T-Hammer Corporation bought Smith & Wesson Corp. from Tomkins PLC. The following year, February 2002, they changed the name of the company to Smith & Wesson Holding Corp. Guess what? Saf-T-Hammer Corporation is a manufacturer of gun locks and other firearms safety products.
