Default Caliber change for street shooters

I have maintained for some time that the gang mentality would some day leave the 9mm and go to the .45acp. I think that time is here.

If any shootings have taken place in your area of the country, take note of the calibers used.

In the last seven days, we have had five shootings.
1. Man was shot in a parking lot. Shooter was arrested and his .45acp was located.
2. Man was shot while trying to take officers sidearm. Man was fatally wounded and a .45acp was removed from his person.
3. Firefight in a low income residential area. Shooters not apprehended or identified but shell casings found were from an AK and .45acp.
4. Man fatally shot in road rage incident. Gun used was .45acp
5. Two teens get into a shooting match. One had a 9mm and the other had a .45acp. Neither was hit. Both were arrested.

had these events taken place 10 yrs ago, all the guns would have been 9mm.

Watch and see if the trend for street thugs to use .45acp is growing.

Street thugs will use whatever they can get their hands on. Since almost all Crime guns are stolen from honest owners what you may be seeing is a reflection of the market moving to the 45ACP. Either that or someone who really likes the 45ACP got cleaned out during a burglary and they've now hit the streets.

Whether 45 or 9, I just hope the punks never get serious about training. Training may be the only edge we have left.

The newspapers hereabouts St Louis don't report as to caliber so it'd just be guessing, but I'd bet it's still 9mm just because it's the cheapest.

Out West is right when gang bangers stop holding their guns sideways and start learning to shoot we will have to really worry. I like the 40 caliber just for the record!

Not sure about cheapest. These guys on the streets have more money in their pockets than Donald Trump. An incident last week that resulted in a fatality had the deceased with $8,000 in his pockets.

Yet I went to a pawn shop a few weeks ago. They were selling Hi Point 45 acp for less than $200. Sure, the buyers have to be legally qualified but the guys on the streets can find someone to buy a gun for them easily enough.

The 9mm is likely the most prevelant gun out there because it has been on the streets a long time and was popular. The police across the US have been doing their share of taking the guns off the streets so they have gotten rid of a lot of the 9mm over the last 20 yrs.

I have a friend who's wife is an ER nurse in Detroit. She tells me that she saw mostly .25 and .32 wounds for quite a few years, then they started seeing a lot of 9mm's. Calibers are getting larger, though, and they're seeing more shootings with the .40 and the .45. One thing they almost never see, though, is shotgun wounds. Those people mostly go directly to the morgue.

Snowbandit, the fotays is what they drink, not what they shoot.

In the San Antonio, Texas area, in the 1960s and 1970s, it was .22 and .25 ACP. With tangerine colored shoes, khaki trousers, a short sleeve shirt unbuttoned all the way down to expose a clean white "wife-beater" t-shirt.

The Hi Point C9 runs around $160 here, the .40 and .45 about $20 more.
