There is a casting forum and it is a term of art there, kind of like the "camp fire talk" used on the SASS forums. I'm a member and will use the term on that board, but anywhere else, I call them cast bullets.

It’s just a playful term used by us casters to differentiate between our hand made lead projectiles and the mass-produced factory projectiles made by machines.

And here I always thought it was someone trying to sound like an old time hick. Sort of like a buddy of mine who likes to say "Cat-tridge."

A bullet is something I got out of a box and shot into something.
A boolit is a projectile that I carefully mixed alloy for, and carefully poured into a mould to acquire its shape. This projectile was then lovingly sized and lubricated, then with extreme care, loaded into a cartridge, usually with much enjoyment during the process.

"Boolits" are something that you shoot out of your "Winnies" and "Remmys".

Howdy,
At the recommendation of another poster in another post,I took to the dictionary. There is no such thing as a boolit in the Webster's New world.
The bool is getting deep around here!

Beyond the reference to the Castboolits Forum, I still think of it as a term used by casters showing the difference in something mass produced for the purpose of business sales vs. something you yourself from chunk of lead to projectile downrange have full control of every step along the way beginning to end. I don't choose to use the word, but I also understand why they use it. Besides, I would be the pot calling the kettle black since I have lived in the South far too long to not slip out a y'all or worse here and there.
Yungry?
Yeat?
Yauntoo?
Yep.
That was a whole conversation down South...

Look like cast bullets or slugs to me, don't know what a boooooo lit is.
A couple years back on another forum there was a big squabble about the word. Some guys explained how the casting forum came to be called castboolits and I have no issues with it. But please leave it on that forum.
Some argued it was easier to type out then cast bullets or something to the effect. Why not just call them CB and JB ( for jacketed bullets).

Forget Websters, Bullets are Bullets and BOOLITS are BOOLITS, something that can be an ART along with being an EXPENSIVE ENDEAVOR. The BOOLITS craze is a disease similar to Reloading Saving You Money along with Rabbits, S&W'S and 1911'S multipylying.
Casters of BOOLITS are few when compared to the numbers who shoot but it is an interesting hobby to study and learn. Revolver shooters/casters really can fit the CORRECTLY SIZED BOOLIT to their revolvers cylinder size.

Or "bullet heads"... I see that occasionally.
Though I cast and I'll use "boolits" when I'm on the Cast Boolits web site to differentiate from commercial cast bullets and jacketed bullets.

It's silly in my estimation. I believe in saying what the hell you mean.
All this 3G, 4G talk just is advertising hype. Just like all this tactical talk we hear in the shooting sports. Calling cast bullets boolits makes me wonder if they are shooting ghosts or something. Just another forum trying to stand out and get attention.

You don't talk over 3G or 4G. They are data related generic terms for how the device will connect to the internet. 4G is vastly superior to 3G but doesn't have as much coverage just yet. So I don't think that's hype at all. But I still can live with "boolits" being a term of endearment for those who cast their own. I'm shocked that such a big deal is being made of this issue. This is supposed to be fun. But so are cell phone pics and guns...

ChuckS1: Sometimes it sucked when they DID. When I was in ROTC summer camp in 1954, Ft Sill got a bad batch of fuzes. On superquick they exploded in the bore, jugged the barrel, blew out the breechblock and made everyone concerned go home and change their drawers. When set on delay (0.10 sec), the projo(sic) detonated about 20 feet outside the muzzle: the back spray of shards cleaned out the gun crew, causing more than a few deaths. I think the rest of that lot is at about 10,000 feet down somewhere in the Pacific. I've been in more mortal danger at Ft Sill than the rest of my 20 year Army career.

Boo-lits for shooting BOO-gers; I mean spooks, huh?
It kinda sounds like baby talk to me. Baby talk sounds really cute when it is coming from a toddler, but if an adult does it, it's about as cute as watching a grown man suck his thumb. Which BTW would also be an attention getter
If we are going to legitimize the term BOOLITS why don't we also come up with some goofy terms to describe JSP's, JHP's, boatail, spitzer, round nose and all of the rest including swaged LEAD bullets such as the hollow base wadcutter. It's got a hole in the base so that could have its own retarded term to distinguish it from solid base wadcutters.
WHERE DOES IT STOP? Hopefully before grown ups are all goo gooing one another.

Actual use came about because the owner did not want to pay the greedmongers that had already claimed Cast Bullets and a dozen variations as their own web domain solely to sell the name to someone else.

The term was coined back when Shooters.com was hosting a Cast Bullets forum. When Shooters shut down, the crew migrated to an interim board on Aimoo and then moved to the current home on Gunloads.com. So that may be why the board is so named, but the term predates the board by a long time.

The term was in use on the defunct Shooters.com long before there was a forum of that name. While you and I may agree that using the term outside of that forum makes one look foolish, the folks that coined the term don't much care what others think...
