Talking Close call

Howdy,
I was reading some 1915 era labor stuff this morning and read that
"Three burglars broke into the home of a Philadelphia lawyer but were able to escape with out being robbed"
Close call or what?
It is one I had not heard before, probably just sitting there since 1915, waiting to be rediscovered.
I need to go finish reading it. Maybe I'll find a blond joke.
Thanks
Mike
