Default Bad Accident Near Here.

I'm off today but I just got through talking to one of my fellow employees who told me he had just got through working a traffic accident involving a motor home. The vehicle was carrying 13 Alabama fans to the BCS Bowl championship game in New Orleans when it had a blowout and left the road and struck a tree. There was one confirmed fatality, 12 injuries with three of them being in critical condition. The accident happened on I59 near the intersection with Hwy 42 in North Hattiesburg. More info on this can be seen at WDAM.com.

My prayers go out to those that were injured and to the family of the deceased.

Were the fans from Alabama?

Just checked the link and saw that they were from GA.

In New Orleans east, there has been a combination of marsh fire and fog. In the past week there have been several major pileups including one 40 vehicle pileup that had some fatalities and multiple injuries. The problem is that temperatures are up and water temperatures are still low. If you are coming to the New Orleans area, slow down when you hit dense fog.

More good advice I see people driving in my area in need of:

Finish eating, reading the paper, shaving, texting, putting on make-up, and such BEFORE getting behind the wheel!

Also, if you need to be to work at 0900, and it takes 30 minutes to get there on a good day, don't leave at 0845 and try to get there by driving faster.

Any accident can turn bad in a hurry. I see more in a week than most see in a year. Owning a motorhome, I know there were not a lot of seat belts inside so many in that RV would have been unbuckled and possibly walking around.

When there is a big event like the LSU-AL game, everyone wants to party and there is always going to be a major accident by someone wanting to get there quickly and paying more attention to partying than driving.

There is no reason a blowout would cause an alert driver to go out of control.

I feel for those injured and my sympathy goes out to the families of the two deceased.

Most RVs have a thin margin of performance/safety. There is a real effort to maximize room and capacity, but they often end up too lightly built, under powered, with inadequate brakes, suspension, transmission, and tires as a result. Throw in a negative event, and the outcomes can be bad like this. There is a reason I am planning to do a truck conversion for mine.
