Default Your biggest non-firearm related indulgence

It is a poorly kept secret that most of us on here and other firearms forums have spent a lot of money on our gun hobby. After guns, what is the biggest indulgence you have thrown money into. I'm not talking the house you live in, but something that you probably could have got through life not owning.

Here is a picture of mine.

The only thing I spend money on that cuts into my ammo and gun budget is cigars and wine.

My two motorcycles; Harley Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic and a Suzuki DL650 VStrom. I've had a lot of fun with my bikes.

My cast iron cookware and fire iron sets. Most of my stuff is original, from the 1700's to the early 19th century.

I've got enough consumer electronics to start my own Best Buy.

I don't consider my motorcycle as something I could live without.

Currently this would be it.
A titanium Lynskey R230 frame, ceramic bearing hubs by Cris King, DT Swiss wheels and Shimano Ultegra triple front with Ultegra shifter/brakes. I wanted a ladies endurance gel/Ti saddle from Terry. One of my favorite parts is the handlebar.

I can't pass up a good deal on a bone or stag handled, antique pocket knife. Other than that, my wife enjoys traveling, and she's a good one, so I try to endulge her in that.

Haha

I wish it was just a collection of old stuff... It's so much worse than that. I've purchased so many new WiFi gadgets in the last year that the fillings in my teeth are playing streaming content.

My other expensive hobby is high end Recurve and longbows. I've been shooting them for about 20 yrs. and can't resist a beautiful piece of hand crafted wood.

My biggest indulgence is motorbikes: I think there are five BMWs out there, only one Guzzi and one Triumph left, a bunch of East European 2-strokes, a bigger bunch of Japanese dual sport and dirt bikes, and a KTM. "One is too many, a dozen is not enough". There are some three-speed bikes and a Surly Pugsley, and I spend a fair amount on decent cigars. I have yet to hit a dozen firearms or bicycles, but probably will. Other than that, I have no vices. Really.

I golf once a week between March and September. Between greens fees and travel costs, it's about 2 grand a year.

I'm a pretty low buck guy otherwise.

Besides firearms, I have a weakness for old movies, mostly comedy.
Laurel & Hardy, Abbott & Costello, Charlie Chase, Buster Keaton, ect.
I`ve built up a pretty good collection of old comedies on tape and disk over the years.
Everyone needs a good laugh now and then. And the old time comics knew how to deliver.

Fly fishing. Split bamboo rods. I rebuild older bamboo rods to modern configuration and use them, also build some graphite rods, tie the flies, and travel to trout streams (not often enough). Old camera's, but they aren't very expensive any longer.

I've got a 1983 NH550 that the wife picked up for me to rebuild, got a lot done on it but hit a snag a couple years ago when the economy tanked, it's all done except for the seat, tires and a battery and paint. It'll be done this summer though, dang it! that is if I stop taking it back apart to powder coat stuff that is...

I don't have enough money at the moment to support my gun habit, so everything else has really taken a hit, but things are looking a LOT better for this year, so I've started my list!

Boats of these sizes are not indulgences, but rather necessities of a well-lived life. My 14' Gregor is a magic carpet --- transporting luxuriant camping equipage across Apache Lake on a plane at about 9 knots, at a usual annual fuel cost of about $25.00 The easily car-topped Grumman square stern canoe with 3.5 HP Johnson similarly transports me for pennies per mile into beautiful country. The Old Town Appalachian whitewater canoe and Loon kayak are also indispensable recreational equipment. Now, high quality optics may approach "indulgence" level, but that's arguable. Whomever said "money can't buy happiness" clearly had not spent enough on superb European glass...

Cameras, specifically Pentax cameras. I have a 1957 Pentax which was the first 35mm camera to combine the rapid advance lever, the instant return mirror and the pentaprism eye level viewfinder. That camera was such a revolution that Asahi Optical Company actually changed the company name to Asahi Pentax. Along with that, I have about 20 or so other Pentax 35mm cameras including an unused 1980's Super Program, f1.7 lens and case that is unused still in the original boxes. Three Pentax MX cameras which was one of the last mechanical cameras needing a battery only for the meter. A medium format Pentax 645 that uses 120 and 220 film.
I did finally give in to the digital age with two Pentax K100 Super and a Pentax K10. I've probably got at least as much or maybe more invested in cameras than I do in firearms. But at least with a camera it's still called shooting.

I think my biggest non firearms expense would be my wife.

My biggest non-firearms indulgence is my Ford F-100. Right now the factory 390 V8 is being rebuilt.

Well, this is my most expensive piece of Nikon glass and metal - sort of puts any SW-RM cost in perspective (if you're crazy):

200-400/4 Nikkor VR(I) - the VRII is even more obscene:

I collect paintings by California artists of the 19th and early 20th Centuries. The paintings show a California that is gone and will never return. The paintings are a window to the past. Here is one I bought a few hours ago. It was painted on the hills above Topanga Canyon. Santa Monica is in the distance. The second painting is called "Fishing on the Merced River". It was painted in the late 1870s. I bought that one in December.

Default Oil Lamps

Seems as if every flee market, garage sale, estate sale that I go too, there is an older oil lamp that no one is interested in. Especially the smaller or odd shaped ones, I have to have it. This has been going on for over 20 years. Individually they are not that much, however they are all over my house now. I think sometimes of how many more revolvers I would own, if only I didn't buy these.

Keeping up the property that has been in my family for 70 years, and in my wife's family for more than 100 years. Even paying taxes on that property can be burdensome. Building fence, keeping brush down, maintaining roads, buildings, and firebreaks . . . all expensive.

I am trying to quickly finish a fencing project that has been going on for about three years (and $15,000) so I can get a few cows on a patch of wheat. I am going to have to run 1800 feet of underground 1" pvc to get water to the cows. After I finish those little projects, I am going to restore that barn in the last picture as a (I hate the term . . . ) man-cave, powered by a 6000 watt generator.

Mine would be my 78 Z28 Camaro.
It's not done yet, but it's almost ready for paint.

unfortionatly, it's been sitting in the garage for a year and a half. Haven't had time for it lately. Took it out once to get inspection stickers on it and parked it again.
Nobody around here wants to finish the bodywork on it, they all want the quick insurance work.

Been spending all my spare time at the animal shelter
