I've given that some thought. Maybe a UPS package store in nearby PA.Since the store will be your shipping address..........

UPS shippers get a reduced rate for driver release, no signature required, packages. If you have a problem with that contact your shipper. It isn't the driver's fault. I worked for UPS for 34 years (non driving position) and I can tell you most posters on this thread have no idea what they are talking about.

I am a retired farmer, and the driveway is 2/3 of a mile from mailbox to house. I have had UPS leave three guns and a custom order leather jacket (it was raining) on the ground by my mailbox. The driver entered "released" on the delivery confirmation signature required, while I had never "released" any such thing. I have been lucky and not lost a gun yet, but there have been other packages that were "delivered" and disappeared. I will pay any extra cost to avoud UPS. A friend who used to do Saiga conversions for large dealers once returned to his shop on a Friday evening after hours, and found a PALLET of Saigas sitting by his shop door, left there by UPS. I'm sure some drivers take pride in their work, but the ones on my route are worthless.

I agree with others, everybody makes mistakes. However, a couple of years ago my sister-in-law ordered a couple of Christmas presents from AFEES (the PX) and they were shipped Fed-Ex. Looking at her tracking number it showed delivered so she called us. We checked around the house, front door (which has a sign Deliveries use Side Door) in the bushes, under vehicles, all over the carport...no packages. My sister-in-law called AFEES and they resent the packages with the exact same result. So now Fed-Ex gets their investigator involved. When asked about it, the driver, while on his route took a picture of the house where he dropped the packages. Our house number is something like 2233 but he was dropping them at a house with the address 2333. The problem was, the house where he was dropping them was completely vacant (no curtains, no furniture and picture window where you could see it was vacant right next to the door) plus had a big For Sale sign in the front yard. It's understandable he did it once but to do it twice leaves me shaking my head. Of course the packages had long since disappeared and the only neighbor who could see the front porch of that house "no habla" when asked about it according to the investigator. My sister-in-law finally had the packages sent to her, she sent them UPS and they were here within a couple of days. So somewhere, someone got 4 new GPS units for free thanks to Fed-Ex and our Christmas presents finally got here halfway through January.

Very old thread.
Many shippers are reluctant to ship anywhere except to an address that matches the credit card used. I suppose this is to avoid identity fraud.
I ordered some dobro parts from Janet Davis Music and they never got here. i suppose they were delivered to another address. I don't have an unlisted number so you would think whomever got it would call me or just give it back to the driver. It is very unlikely anyone else would use them.
I have heard of rural customers wrapping garbage like it was a package and sitting them by the road. Pretty soon a car stops, the occupant gets out and looks both ways and snaps up the package. I can't say I approve of this because the low life will just throw out the package when they find out it is garbage.

I read the original post and I'm not sure what it is attempting to say. If the delivery service takes it to the wrong address, as mentioned in some of the responses, that's on them. If I order something and am not in a good position to receive it and have neighbors who are losers, it seems to me I didn't use good judgement. My crooked neighbors are not UPS's responsibility. Someone suggested having it delivered to work. Seems like a great idea to me!

The thread seems to have wandered from the topic of someone stealing the package to bashing delivery services. Yep there have been numerous videos of delivery guys doing bad things, but remember there are thousands of packages delivered by nice guys all the time too.
We live in a BAD part of the metro-plex and we don't have packages delivered to the house because if they were to be left at the door they would be gone in 60 seconds. (neither me or the mrs can afford to move so don't suggest it) We have house numbers proudly displayed, we have a nice clean yard that shows pride in ownership, we have a covered entry with some small hiding spots if needed, and its well lite at all times. Our mailbox is halfway down the block with all the others as set up by the USPS.
None of that matters because any package left that is visible will be taken by one of the many questionable people randomly driving by. In fact we've been warned that the thieves are now following the USPS, UPS, and FedEx trucks in the neighborhood and waiting for the truck to drive off and then they take the package if it was left out.
I wish thieves and people who do bad things would spend their time doing creative and positive acts for society.

I to ship to place of business, but because my UPS guy won't leave a package at my door, thankfully. At first I thought this to be bothersome but now its much safer to ship to either my work place or my wife's. I live in an apartment complex and feel your pain. Several scratches and dings on our vehicles but never a note or a own up to it visit. People can be so irresponsible and low. Happy to hear you got a new kaNifey.

Sorry to hear about that. At least Amazon seller is taking care of it... USPS is the worst of them. I had a package I was expecting (ordered a really nice ring for my girl, paid over $300 for it), had it delivered with tracking#, delivery confirmation and insurance and they claim it was delivered and that someone signed for it but it was never found. I went through loops, a lot of phone calls, emails, just to try to claim the insurance money ... it had been almost 9 months and they were still not wanting to pay me for their negligence and I finally just threw the towel on it.
Never had any major problems with UPS except for them leaving things in the strangest of places. I ordered a guitar once and they left the package under my truck. I’m glad I didn’t run over it by accident.
Of all of them I trust FedEx the most. Here in my city they have always had very friendly employees and been great on delivery.

I have had everything from bees to firearms delivered to me, solid items to 48in plasma TV, by UPS, Fed Ex, USPS the only problem I have ever had damaged was twice with the USPS oversized package delivery. Heck USPS even delivered the bees to me, only once though had to pickup myself after that at the post office. Of course I don't have any neighbors so no problem with thief. There are people out there that will follow the delivery trucks with ill intent The drivers have no control of this. We get delivers at least twice a week with no damages or loss. UPS has shipping info you can check to see what day it will be delivered, for me it has been on the money 99.9% of the time except the one package I really wanted before my wife got home, still think that day 12" of snow shouldn't have stopped my delivery. Our UPS drivers whom we have had several, I talk to whenever I see them are friendly people as are the USPS people. Fed Ex drops and runs. The UPS and Fed Ex work on a routing system and are GPS logged so they don't have time to dilly dally around looking for someone to hand a package to unless signature is required as this could cost them their job for not following their routing to a T. Most of the time these people do not know what is inside a package. They can assume when I receive a long narrow box with signature required what it is and see a gun shop return address, but don't know for sure only when I get a create or box marked caliber and ORD-M do they know what it is. Some of the drivers probably get a attitude and throw packages to the ground and I am sure most damages happen at the terminal or in transit 18 wheeler containers don't ride like a Rolls Royce, so if your package is damaged file a claim. As for delivering a signature required package without a valid signature would be grounds for their dismissal call and complain especially for a firearm or just say you didn't get it and get a free one. just my .02 Disclaimer no I don't work for any of them.

REAL THIEVES follow the UPS and Fed-X trucks and after the package is left, they walk up and grab it and GO!

Insure absolutely everything you ship or have shipped. Since insurance is not terribly expensive, I usually insure for more than the actual value. If you must have it, request it be shipped requiring a signature for delivery.

My wife is a USPS employee (the old fashioned kind that gives the best service to her customers). Rural carriers used to be called "Post Offices on wheels". She says that now NO service is encouraged and the only thing acceptable is to get your route delivered as quickly as possible and get back to the office. (In spite of what PO officials say, the PO that she works in is constantly inundated with mail and packages) She is chastised for being 'slow' but she won't change what she thinks is the right thing to do.

We have a great mail man so I try to get everything I can USPS Priority mail.
He brings the packages right to the door if it won't fit in mailbox at end of driveway. If no one is home he leaves it on the porch with a note with the rest of the mail that he left it there. So far no mishaps. Great service. A guy who cares about doing a quality job. We leave him a Christmas Card each year with a pretty nice tip. It was his initial great service that warranted the tip in the 1st place. It may have perpetuated teh great service... who knows.

I have two stories about having deliveries made at work. I worked in a manufacturing plant. The first time we had a LTL ( less than a load) driver, think- estes, abf, delivery conpanies etc., drop a pallet of goods and took off before the shipper could sign for it. The shipper had went up to the front office to deliver paperwork. When he comes back, here is a pallet with shrink wrapping all over it. The shipping order was on a box inside the shrink wrap. Anyhow he opens a box and says "***". He looks at the manifest. It was a pallet of tools- hi grade tools. I think they were snap-on.H gets all excited. There were $15000 worth of tools that were delivered to the wrong address by a new driver. Anyhow they came back the next day and picked them up. And all the tools were there too. The next time, the shipper had to sign for a wooden box that had one of our engineer's name on it. He called the guy up and told him it had arrived and asked him what it was. It had to be unloaded with a forklift. It wasa brand new souped up engine for the guys mustang! The shipper was shaking his head. It was funny.
