Default Found a gun this morning!

OK, really my wife did. I hate it when she straightens things up. She set her sights on the closet this morning. I heard her making a bunch of noise, but I had a blanket on my lap and Tom cat on top of it. He was purring real good, and I was maybe snoring. It was my late morning nap, after the exhausting ordeal of getting up.

Finally, and only to be polite, I asked her what all the noise was about. Then she kind of demanded I go see her handiwork. No doubt everything will be impossible to find for months now. Then she pointed at a box that had been up too high to get down. She said "did you know there's a gun in that box!" No, but there might be a gun anyplace around here. So I felt obligated to look, since none of my favorites has been missing recently.

Of course as I was opening the box, I asked her if it was loaded. And in the normal wife-like fashion, she said she didn't know. Implying she didn't look. But then why was she digging in my stuff? Who cares.

Anyway, out comes a 3 something. Just by the feel I could tell it was loaded. 5 rounds of 158 grain ammo adds significant heft to the thing. So I opened it to make sure it was full (of course it was.) Then in the moderately good light of the closet, I looked to see what model. Obviously a J, and clearly had a hammer. Hmmmm. Right inside the crane was 360. And on the barrel was .38 S&W Special. Hmmmm. Yep, its been misplaced for the entire year and a half we've been in this house. If you'd look at it, you'd never guess it was one of only 50 of them they made way back in the beginning. Something about having the small frame window that won't take the longer .357 cylinder. Doesn't bother me a bit, hot 38s are more than enough for an old guy who doesn't like his hands hurt.

Now I don't know what to do with it. Maybe I should take the laser grips off my 351 and put them on it. Then I could put it in my field jacket, it was my dog walking coat, except the dog up and died. Someplace in my boxes of gun stuff I've got the cute little padded clamshell it came in. More of a fitted case than anything else. I'm guessing it was made back in the last century. I vaguely remember buying it at a gun show.

My gun pard John, now deceased like my dog (I miss them both terribly) had brought along one of the first 357s to sell. Someone in his family asked him to sell it for her. He dumped it too quick for me to decide. That's pretty fast (ask GF how long it takes some times!) So as I was lamenting my slowness, along comes this girl who wants to sell the gun. She had all the required stuff, even the original bill of sale from a few years before, and her drivers license to prove she was a hillbilly. The price was better than John wanted for his, so it provided me with cover for buying from someone else! And that had to be over 5 years ago since John passed away 4 1/2 ago. And now I can claim that in the course of my nap, I am $500 richer! Life is good. I need and afternoon nap.

Another great story Mr. Burg. I still question, however, whether you actually exist or not!

I wish I had a nice wife like you. I take at least 1 nap a day and my wife has never found a gun. Larry

Last year when I got my winter coat out for the first time, I found $20 in the pocket. I like it when things like that happen.

Ask Lee. If he still exists, he'll tell you about someone else who was a Non-believer. The poor guy had the gall to ask him where Dick Burg could be found. Unlike Lee, I actually occupy my tables when I have them. So Lee very politely (he's always polite, if only rarely seen) said I don't exist, but the guy at my table was the person they were paying to act like me today! It'd be tough for anyone else to act that badly. And in public, too!

Default I lost a gun this morning....

O/P...In response to the title of your thread, what a coincidence, "I lost a gun this morning" that just happens to fit the description of the pistol you say you found. Thanks for finding it for me. If you'll be so kind as to mail it to me, I'll be happy to send you the $50 reward I was offering the others who were helping me look for my lost revolver. I have no idea how it got into your closet, but I am looking forward to being reunited with it. I suppose I can now go out and take down all the 'lost gun" signs posted around the neighborhood.

thanks,

tiger

I lost one for 25 years one time. I had forgotten I had loaned it to my FIL and he forgot to return it. He died 25 years ago. Last year my 86 year old MIL wanted me to look at this old gun she found in a drawer and there was my snubby. I thought I might have left it in Florida hotel room but didn't remember until she showed it to me. It's back in the safe. Also, I will sign any affidavit that anyone wants me to sign attesting that Burg is indeed real. You can see him in action, or inaction, at next month's Louisville show.

Most likely both. Charlie wasn't ready for someone sitting there, BSing when a hot tip came in about ammo one aisle over. From dead still to running in less than a second. Then back in a minute with both arms full of highly rare 12ga brass shotties and 44 Special ammo. Then back to BSing.

Stories about my antics fill the hall. I have no problem sleeping. I can doze right off driving along...it irritates my wife no end. At one show a few years ago, I was really tired. So I made a bed under my table! A few long gun cases opened and then a couple of pistol rugs for a pillow! It was OK, Joe was watching my stuff. Then a prospective buyer came along and asked a question Joe couldn't answer. So I answered it from under the table. The poor guy thought it was the spirits talking. Joe couldn't stop laughing. I don't bring the table cover to look classy, I bring it to convert my table into a sleeper car!

Mr. Burg...

That was a wonderful story..I was particularly moved about the Late Morning Nap part..as I too find it is the only way to recover from getting up in the morning..

I am curious.. do you also find the after dinner, pre bed time nap as helpful??

Thank you for your attention between naps!!

Regards

Just another old guy tryin to get by..

Sal

I just woke up from my pre goin to bed nap to check the forum. Think I'll respond here and close my eyes before l go to bed. By the way... I was pokin around the garage about a month ago and opened up a cardboard box where l had stored some gun cleaning supplies. Lo and behold! There was a Colt New Frontier .22 Buntline l bought in high school, box, papers and everything else. I thought l had sold that thing over 40 years ago. Ah... life is good! Now, if you will excuse me, l need to take a nap.

Great story Dick. I recently found a 1905 Target in a briefcase, I had forgotten I had bought the gun, stared at it a few minutes and then recalled the purchase. Good thing about getting older, any day may end up like Christmas morning with a present to open. Alas, no nap was involved but a pleasant surprise non the less.

I know Mr Burg, his age is hard to tell.... somewhere between 60 and 25 I'd say.

I'm a few years younger but I too have "misplaced" a firearm (or two) and other accessories. Presently, I can't find a magazine for my 380 Walther.
I had a Colt JR that I found when it got cold enough for a jacket this fall.
Every coat I own has 22 shells in the pockets, I never carry a 22. (?)
And there's always a flashlight missing from where I need it when it's dark enough to need light. I keep them everywhere, but never WHERE I need it.

Dicks right, I know about "not getting in a hurry" .... sometimes it takes a year of gunshows to make a deal.

Now, remember the masonic ring I'm supposed to get from Joe? I hope to have it by the 4th..... of July.

That's odd. I just realized I am missing a Model 19. And I know that for sure - there's no doubt about it. It is around here somewhere, I think...

I probably need Dick, his cat, and his wife to help me find it. I'll look for it after dinner. My memory is better when I am not hungry.

Before we married my wife decided to move from MI to Virginia Beach, smart lady, to be with her mother. In packing for the move she brought all of her "pockybooks" (I know but try telling her) down from closet shelves. She emptied out each one before boxing it up. When she was done she had found $287!

Dick,

Some people don't perform well in the world of writting. I know, I'm one of them.

You on the other hand, write really well.

So far no gun has fallen into that black hole somewhere in my house, but plenty of other stuff has. I have a Chicom Tokarev, with capture papers. The papers were looking a litle beat up. so I thought I'd put them somewhere safe. They're safe enough all right; that was 18 years ago and I haven't seen them since.
