If the average public knew how many sex offenders and convicted felons were walking amongst them everyday concealed carry would be nationwide and mandatory. I can't go out in public to the local Walmart or grocery store without seeing one, and I live in a fairly rural area, to me a big city has to be downright scary.

Before we chose an area to live in SW OK, we checked crime reports dot com. Believe it or not, but it had an influence were we finally decided to rent a house.

The thing we like about this website is, that you can choose the incident type. It's terrible what you will find out. And these are only the reported crimes...

Well, I'm not on it. I think. I'm pretty sure. Unless they have a "barnyard animals" section.

Texas in not in the national search, but our DPS website has had sex offender registry search available for years.

I have 3 daughters. I've worked with creepers. I work in schools. I've worked in bars in seedy neighborhoods---I check that list all the time and protect myself and mine.

Sadly, chances are actually good that you might, or at least have one within a mile or so of you.

Is an emu a barnyard animal or a zoo animal? Ponders.

Ugh. we've got two new ones...two blocks from the house, and one by the junior high. Looks like we're going on a ride around the neighborhood so that the kids know where these houses are and yeah, they are going to see those mugshots too.

Just entered my home address and did a radius search for any hits within 2 miles and got no hits. Good news.
I live in a small town of 2500 in a rural area.
Thanks to: VPNAVY for the link i'll check it often.

I checked the local zip code and there are only about 1/4 of the offenders within the area that is on our local and state offender list.

It's not the ones on the list you have to be most concerned about. Just like snakes, you don't usually get bitten by the one you knew was there.

I had to come back and tell this true story. A chief of police in our village received a complaint of burglars in the local slaughter house. Not being able to get in the building, or see inside, he used a ladder to climb to the second floor and peek in the window. What he saw was an intoxicated local "being friendly" with a yearling calf. The chief started laughing so hard he (you guessed it) fell off the ladder and injured his leg. I responded and found him on the ground still laughing despite a sprained ankle. We found the perp later, and took his hair covered jeans as evidence. At his arraignment everyone in the courthouse was laughing, including his public defender.

What was so funny? Was it a particularly unattractive calf or something?

I did a search of my area. We have quite a population in and around town.

Tell ya what... a lot of the mugshots look exactly as one would expect a sex offender to look like.

Check the details though. Nowadays you can get that label for "watering" a shrub on the golf course...

I took some time off and went up to Vero Beach. The disturbing thing was they had a channel on TV that showed them. One after the other. I was amazed how many sick people were in the area.
I partied with the girl that ran the hotel at the time and she told me that some guy was harassing her. Later on he got busted for being a peeping tom. Priors. We saw him on TV later.

There's some sick people around and they're every blinking where.

Checking my zipcode, I find that I'm surrounded by sex offenders, but that they are exclusively male. Aren't convicted female (and/or male) prostitutes also required to be registered? Anybody know the particulars???

I get the impression that sex offenders are cursed
with faulty internal wiring. Not much chance of getting
that fixed....ever. TACC1

we've checked the Megan's Law Registered Sex Offenders a few times a year since our oldest daughter was born 10 yrs ago. i was shocked at first, especially when a kid that was supposed to graduate with me was on there...

do a search for your name on this one...there were 4 versions of me on it...hope i never get confused with any of them...

There are some areas where it seems it would be simpler to list just those who are not sex offenders.
