Det Special pricing?
I ran across a Det Special from about the early 60's today, it was priced at $250. Had the correct well worn stocks and a Tyler on it. The bad, it was about 70% condition with lots of holster wear, tight mechanicals, some freckling but no major pits. The hammer was bobbed also. I'm thinking an old NYPD off duty rig.
How about the price on this?

Following me?? Did you see the other one they had, the DS with the inscription on the sideplate? Some Prob Patrolman won a tournamnet in 1960? That one was 350 or so. I'm thinking another NYPD trade-in. I tried to beat you to the NY-1's but they had none.

LOL
Our paths do cross
I was quite into that DS its not a collector piece but its got some way cool factor. The polished Tyler sets it off with the clipped hammer
Its was just to expensive for me, the wont take my C&R for shipping it. So it needs a transfer add in tax, shipping and so on...
I did happen to see that other one, they seem to have had it awhile now. I was trying to learn a bit more on it. I did learn that NYPD chief Ray Kelly has and carries a DS won in a contest and is engraved similar to the one the store has. I think the stores was marked 1960 and Kellys is 1967. I am not sure it it was the same contest just a different year or something different all together as I lost the notes I scribbled down
The had an ol' new service in 44/40 that was getting lower in price. Its just a monster of a gun...
They had a M28 S serial that looked ok 6"
I was thinking of swinging by tomorrow afternoon if I had time, I guess no need now
In January I fished a decent 640 NYPD style from them

WG28, they still have the 44/40, I think the price was about 300???? I could be wrong as I looked at quite a few of their guns. The 28 is gone.
While looking at the DS, I was thinking about sending it to Fords for a nickel job and putting some Executioner stags on it . But alas, I came to my senses.
I'm thinking most of their wheelgun trades come from NYPD guys, Rockland is loaded with em'.
Might try again in a week or two.

According to the NYT, Kelly still wears a .32 that he got after graduation. My sons NY-1 is going south, if you know what I mean. Pearl River is cop town.

That must have been the story I read. The inscription was something about a contest winning and given to "Probationary Patrolman _______"
Very similar to the one Ladder and I saw...
I was guessing it was a marksmanship contest at the academy?
Oh yeah NY-1s, Ladder and I fish in the same ponds so were on the prowl for em. 4" RB or 3" SB
Id love a M60 NY-1 while were at it...

They had several DS and 36s when I was there last.
They had that Outdoorsman that was reblued, wrong grips and very expensive, it not on the shelf any more, did someone buy it?
The had the little reblued terrier...
I am thinking of buying one of the Kahr K9 nypd guns from them.
I do agree they get a lot of NYPD guys. When I bought the 640 they had a M10 really beat, left handed cop the one grip panel was worn smooth look like a presentation grip.... I think it was $150 or $200, I didnt buy it.
Its my understanding the NYPD revolvers are almost impossible to get rid of in the city, they bring $50 or less. I sort of understand it...
I did also score a nice Ruger GPNY from a different store

I guess its real name is a "Grip Adapter" several companies made them Tyler was a name brand, its actually made by Melvin Tyler hes passed and someone is running the company. If you search to forum you will find loads of info, on it, the good, the bad and the ugly I am sorry to say.
Other folks did make them Pachmayer, Mershon, and more
In this picture the adapter is in front of the wooden grip, its the black part.

If it's still there next week I may not be able to resist I think I may have to take another look at the other DS with the inscription on the sideplate, but wish I had copied the patrolmans name down and done some research before going back.
WG28, they had a few of the Kahr's and said they were getting em' in by the bunches since NYPD took them off the allowed list. Don't recall the prices on em'. No M10's in the case either, salesman siad they go as fast as they come in.

Why do you not have it? I passed on one in similar condition to think it over and it was gone 3 hours later - I still miss that gun!

More like the spur was chopped. Have any DS hammers laying around? I'll trade
The gun looked like this one only, much rougher. I'm not up on the generation thing, is this a G2?

I'd plunk down the $250 and carry it without reservation...

I thought the spur was cut but theres still enough to manipulate it if needed. I think some folks called it "clipped" its just shortened.
I dont know Ladder, the jurys in seems like you need to buy it
Oh the inscribed one, I did write some info down but misplaced it.
Its been there quite a while, I bet the make you a good two fer deal!!
