I have gotten two emails this week one from Buds Gun Shop and one from Brownells. Buds said there might be a shortage of guns and Brownells said there might be a shortage of ammo that would be worse than that of a few years ago. Do you think this is scare tactics to sell guns and ammo? Don

I expect just the anticipation of the up and coming election will cause a run on shooting related goods.
I have been stocking up for six months, a little at a time, so I can go about in a normal manner.
I have been through this twice before and the first time it caught me off guard.
I don't think they need to scare folks into buying. I think folks are scared already that things might dry up or prices shoot up due to shortages like they have in the past.

I was in a local gun shop the other day to pick up an item I had ordered and the owner said something similar. I'm not sure what to think. Sometimes I think it's just a bunch of hype, but maybe it's not.

Lets learn from the last election cycle. Lot of greed was created, .....

Fear Sells. Profiteer's Abound. It was two years before the supply of ammo went back to normal, although prices doubled....sometimes tripled. But that was because the dollar isn't worth as much in buying power.

Laugh every time I see large amounts of ammo for sale in the Bargain corner of our paper.People bought ammo on sight at prices that made no sense thinking they were going to make money and a lot of them paid with credit cards.Now they can't unload their stash to make the payments,Ha,Ha chumps. By the way I work for the largest retailer in Michigan and our boom room is filling fast with ammo for future sales, seems the buyers in the office know a good thing when they see it.Lots of handgun and rifle ammo being stored.

Each time there is an election year with a controversal person possibly being elected, guns and ammo sales increase.

Most here have enough guns and ammo to last a few hundred years so it is no biggie.

Bear in mind that it is 2012. TEOTWAWKI is supposed to happen in December. Remember the buying frenzy that Y2K caused?

I am amazed by how busy my local indoor range has gotten over the past 6 months. People shooting, and buying guns like I have never seen before. Granted, we do have our new concealed carry law now in Wisconsin, and that may be part of the reason so many people are buying and shooting. I haven't any trouble finding ammo, but I still keep plenty on hand in case shortages occur.

my Nephew bought a x bolt in St loius a few weeks ago. I believe he was at a cabelas, there was a three hour wait to get to the gun counter. the guy calling in background checks said he would have to come back in two days to pick up his rifle as he was that busy. When my nephew return to pick up his rifle he had another two hour wait. The only thing I would need to stock up on is bullets.

I'm seeing the same thing in Ohio and we've had CC for years. The new shooters don't mind if I police their brass (I always ask) so I'm well stocked. And I have been setting $20 to $30 per week aside and buying powder, primers and bullets. They don't expire - well the powder maybe but not for decades - so they won't go to waste.

Am I helping create a shortage? Hmmm....

My LGS told me a few week's back reloading supplies are flying off the shelves, as well as guns and ammo.

There's likely some truth to it... but.... There's also plenty of people who don't have spare funds. They will be more likely to sell rather than buy. The more so if prices spike. If things go back to where most any old AR dug out of the closet can fetch a grand, then a lot of people will be selling, offsetting the demand. At least somewhat.

There are also more AR makers than in 2008, plus government ammo orders ought be down since the war in Iraq is over and the one in Afghanistan is almost over.

Our current administration has proven itsself quite the gun and ammo salesman.

If your not at the point that your storing ammo in more than one place or have room for more ammo cans....
sure go ahead and buy.
