I'm not having much luck prying my Walther PPK/S back from the friend to whom I sold it back in the '80s, so I'm looking for an alternate small carry .380 or 9mm.

I'm not a fan of stainless (the PPK/S was a blued Manhurin), so I'm reluctant to buy one of the current guns.

Does anyone have any experience with the PPS in 9x19mm? It's an interesting looking gun, very flat. I think I may have held one at a show once, but have never shot one and don't know anyone who owns one.

How are they in regard to:

• reliability
• accuracy
• recoil

It appears somewhat larger than the PPK/S, but it is a 9x19mm, which I prefer.

I bought one for my police officer nephew to carry as a backup and off duty gun. He had Glock 26, but liked to carry inside his waistband and felt the baby Glock was too fat.

I haven't fired it, but he has qualified on it and now carries it regularly. He loves it and it has been completely reliable for him.

As you said, it is very flat. If its not skinnier than your old PPK it at least feels like it is.

It's not as classy as the PPK/S, but it's more functional, and probably easier to shoot, since it appears to have a Glock type trigger.

I've got one. Mine was reliable right from the start. It's accurate enough to be a fun range gun. It weighs about the same as a Glock 26, with comparable recoil, I'd say.

I'm pretty sure I've discussed mine here before. It was utterly reliable until the slide stop spring broke, and has been utterly reliable since I replaced that. I carry it with Speer Gold Dot +P 124-grainers that do just under 1200 fps from the 3" tube. Very flat. Recoil is fine, but will be more noticeable than on a wider gun. Accuracy is good (better than a Glock) despite a trigger that's nowhere near a target trigger (but is still better than a Glock's).

Would you consider it small enough for a pocket holster, since that's how I'd mostly carry the PPK/S?

Regarding the trigger, is it LIKE a Glock trigger, only "better" or is it different?

BTW - Google "Glock $0.25 trigger job". You can REALLY improve the Glock trigger pull, even WITHOUT replacing any parts.

I'm very satisfied with mine and have had no problems.

I had one and liked it just fine. East to concel for a light weight flat pistol with decent caliber........I traded mine for a SS Kahr 40 that I also like, but wished I still had the PPS due to weight....I liked the trigger after I got used to it...A lot like a Glock....No FTF or any other problems..I'm just a DA sometimes...

I wonder if you can do the same sort of quick and dirty trigger job on it that you can on a Glock or an M&P.

It would be pushing it. I've not found this comfortable in dress slacks or tactical pants, and forget about it in jeans. Cargo shorts are a go.

Different, insofar as it's crisper. It's not a 1911 target trigger.

i love mine. after a break in period, my Glocks are no longer in my carry rotation.
100% reliable, excellent trigger, and it will outshoot all my pistols (including the Sigs) minus one Italian made Beretta 92 i bought in the 90s.

Just to clarify, are you saying that the PPS specifically wouldn't be good for pocket carry, or that you just don't like pocket carry at all?

I pocket carry a Model 36 no-dash all of the time and find this very convenient, especially when I have to visit CPZs, of which there are now substantially fewer with the repeal of the ban on carry in unposted Class D liquor establishments here.

I like pocket-carry; the PPS doesn't work for me in that mode.

While the PPS is thin, the receiver is taller than similar sized pistols. The distance between the bottom of the trigger guard and the top of the slide is greater than that of a Glock 26. That's why pocket carry doesn't work for me, however, the PPS is really easy to carry IWB, either appendix carry (my preference) or behind the hip.

Outstanding gun. When I was investigating it, my concern was the recoil and shoot ability given the thin profile. My fears were unfounded....very pleasant to shoot, accurate, reliable and of high quality. I like the trigger, not an issue. You will not be disappointed

I've had one for about 3 years. It's one of my regular carry guns.
They are too bulky for pocket carry and a bit too heavy for that job, too.

The recoil is amazingly light for a small thin 9x19 pistol. I was very surprised how well it handles. The oustanding accuracy did not surprise me. I have 5 PPKs presently and owned a few more of them and some PPs over the years.

As was said, the trigger is basically Glock but it breaks cleaner.

i love mine. it has basically replaced my glock 27 for cold-weather duties. it is very accurate, and feels very glock-like in use (that's a good thing!), and has been 100% reliable with all fodder. it looks and feels like a quality unit. i agree that it is probably a tad too big/tall for pocket carry. you might get away with carry in an outer coat pocket. i really like the 6-round mag for carry, and the 7-rounder for shooting. the 8 just seems to big for the package, to me. perhaps someone with huge hands might like the 8 rounders, but they would really limit the concealability.

In my opinion a lot more reliable than a PPK. Not as finiky as some of the PPK, and PPKs out on the newer market..The older german built blued steel seem a lot more reliable than the new ones..PPS is a fine concealble weapon IMHO
