Plans for Standard Catalog of S&W 4th Ed?
Does anyone know if there are plans in the works for a 4th Edition of "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson"?? I am sure the authors hang out here. It was printed in 2006, so the prices might need some adjustment. (I LOVE this book!!!)

I would like to see another edition of SCS&W but not so much for the pricing which changes constantly but for the engineering revisions and variations to existing models as well as listing new models.

When Jim Supica took the position of Director of the National Firearms Museum he said there would not be a SCSW4.

Just picked up the 3rd ed..
I sure do wish those prices were still accurate.
I have learned a lot from that book. I hope a 4th comes out.

I'll see them in the near future and ask.
Last I heard, Jim's time is fully occupied, but I do know that Rick still accumulates data.
Never say never.

Perhaps just a Update or revision to the existing volume?
Correct any errors if there are any, update prices add or delete stuff?
Kind of an addendum or something.

A few months ago I was repeating the conventional wisdom. That when the 3rd came out, there wouldn't ever be a 4th. And Jim came into the thread (he's still a member here) and said they were discussing it. He said that right here on the open forum.
I took that to mean its alive and well.
It'll be a tall order to fill. The 3rd, even if printed in Communist China, is a work of art. Back then I lobbied for one with large pictures (I actually wanted fold out style photos). I was just overjoyed at how good it is. And the pages are thick! I was reading last night and kept trying to separate the two stuck together. Except they weren't. We just got that good printing. They used premium paper. We got an outstanding bargain last cycle. I sure hope they shoot for the same thing next time.
I just paid $70 for the Registered Magnum book. Its not half the quality of print nor the quality of content Jim and Rick produced last cycle. Of course I'm biased. Badly. But the 3rd is just about the best book I've ever seen on a subject I know anything about. We sure got a lot of cooperation and help from our posters here. Everyone turned out and helped, or so it seemed.
So to review: The 1st edition was great because it was so much better than anything ever written before on the subject. The second was a much cheaper production but it did correct a lot of the "mistakes" or misconceptions printed in the first. I'm sure we made Jim's life miserable by all the email we sent him. To our satisfaction, he included most of it in the 2nd. Then the 3rd came out and just blew us away. It was so good we had no right to expect it. I have no clue what they're shooting for in a 4th. I would hope he states the goals right up front when they get serious.
We're lucky collectors (or shooters) to have such a complete reference on our subject. Lets hope we get even luckier.

Even some type of addendum in soft back would help. Maybe that's more manageable than a 4th Edition.

Whether there is an update for the 3rd Edition planned, or a new and fancy 4th Special-Limited-Edition in 25 languages is in the pipeline;
I would like to offer my help in everything regarding German language. I particular there is a comment in the 3rd Edition regarding a Suppressor on page 374 as well as Full-Auto 12ga Prototype on page 335.
Whatever it is, send me the file and I will help as best as I can...

There is a Kindle version of SCS&W3 which is handy but not a substitute for the printed version, AFAIC. The handy part is it is searchable and the presentation format allows resizing text & pages, adding bookmarks. Photos are good, too. (Free Kindle software for Mac/PC available, too)

Has anyone come up with a good adjustment on the values to reflect the current market?
I know the value of guns vary a lot nation wide, but just for reference, do you add say 20%, or $100, or how do you adjust the values shown?
Thanks.

I will bang this drum. Resurrecting this old thread just to add another please please do a fourth. So much new stuff needs to be included. I agree the third edition is a real beauty, absolutely love it.

I'll add my voice again....mainly because my 3rd is starting to fall apart! Of course, I'm in the book several times a week, particularly if something interesting comes up here. Heck, they could include a picture of azmick's 28-1, just so the world could see that it actually exists! And, of course, my all-important edit to the WSP comemmorative comment in that section.....Patrol, not Police.......

With digital publishing so well advanced, updating is a whole lot easier and formatting can be more or less automatic regardless of the publishing medium, print or electrons. I would encourage Messrs Supica and Nahas and their publisher to keep good things going...

If you're buying from me add 20%, if you're selling to me deduct 20%.

Like others have said, I greatly appreciate the resource and would welcome a 4th edition with expanded data.

I found it.
Perfect example of fame without fortune.
Bruce Springsteen suffered the same fate....for awhile.
There's always hope, brother.

Mr. Jim Supica is too busy doing documentaries, I see him on one of those firearm shows every weekend! 3rd edition is a great book.

For those of us with limited attention spans, a pop-up book would be nice.

OK, he's said it twice now on a public forum. Hope springs eternal.
But there are some rules this next cycle. I bought 3 of the 3rd. One to put back, one for the bookcase right by my recliner, and a 3rd down in the dungeon/gun room. Sounded like a good decision.
But then reality got in the way. That next Christmas my wife felt we weren't giving our boys enough. So she randomly pulled out the first 2 she could find and gave GAVE them away. Yes, the autographed one with a whole bunch of our posters here next to the paragraph where they were mentioned. And the perfect one. Leaving me with only the gun room copy.
Like Hillary once said..."what difference does it make".
Things will be different in the future. Yes, I've warned her I'll shoot her if she discards any of my other treasures. If our sons want a book, they can buy it for themselves. And I'm not even a lending library. Books come up missing and it turns out they borrowed it.

If they would reissue the 3rd edition in loos-leaf version, and then do model or section updates from time to time on a subscription basis, I'd bet they could get enough subscriptions to make it worth their time. Jim could work on just small pieces at a time.
