Default Dream Shooting

I don't know about you but I dream constantly, most all night long. Most of them are totally weird, most I hate, some I like. But...the ones about guns. When I am about to shoot some bad guy that's about to shoot me first, in my dreams, my gun usually jams or the bullet comes out of the barrel and drops to the ground, or the bullet bounces off the bad guys chest, or the bullet flies off into outer space. On the flip side of the coin the bad guys bullets always hit their target....ME! but I always live to live another day.

Anyone else have this one sided dream shooting?

OK, I know, I'm a strange guy.

You know I have always had the same problem in my dreams. My knife blade bends or can't get my gun to shoot.
I wonder what it is in the back of our minds that don't let us come out ahead in these situations.

Last dream I had were about zombies, the Tardis, a supermodel and a ferrari. What can I say, when I dream, I dream big.

Have a recurring one that started when I was a young LEO, in a shootout with some bad guys and I run out of ammo, bad guy leans over the propane tank I'm hiding behind and draws down on me----then, I wake up
Glad to wake up every time it happens!!!

That's funny. I used to have a Combat Commander that I couldn't get to cycle reliably even with ball ammo. When I had that gun I had dreams like that--that gun was always the one in the dream, even though I never really carried it.

It went down the road. I now have a 642 as a carry piece--no dreams like that since.

Default That is funny

Howdy,
Mine is about a real person. For months a fellow ran a weekly ad in our local paper, advertising as a chiropractor. I didn't know him or ever meet him, but for weeks I'd get the paper and make comments about his picture.
In the picture he wore a pastel colored tux and big rose tinted John Lennon glasses. I thought it was funny and dissed him all the time as looking like a pothead bone cracker. (How tolerant of me.)
One night in a dream I was entering my home and I could not get the door open. Gunfire erupts and bullets start slamming into the door frame all around me. I look over my shoulder and across the road is the Chiropractor banging away at me with a .38 snub. A hollywood gun that held unlimited ammo.
I get frantic trying to get in the house and it always scares me out of my sleep.
I had this same dream several times but not for many years now.
Who knows what makes a person dream things?
I know this, when it happens it is scary as if it is real.
Funny stuff.
Thanks
Mike

Just recently had a great chance to stop one of those mass shootings (dreamland, remember), - maneuvered into position, drew cleanly, but my 1911 wouldn't fire despite repeated racking of the slide. I even got a chance with a knife, which worked fine but seemingly did no damage.... Woke up with the same adrenaline charge as if it really happened and was done with sleep for the night.

Yup, I've had them myself. Last night, as a matter of fact! Protecting my 15 year old granddaughter from a badguy, wrestled him to the ground and stuck my .38 heavy barrel Model 10 (I don't even own one!) into his side and pulled the trigger six times, to no effect. Then the dirtbag shot me and I woke up.......

Weird that you should start this thread!

Twice I dreamed that I needed to shoot [can't remember why, but it was important!], and I couldn't, for the life of me pull the trigger.

I mean the trigger would pull all the way back, but nothing happened. In the dream I kept trying to force it back further, but nothing....

I'm guessing it was the pepperoni pizzas, after the range trips that created the perfect Freudian Storm!

I also dream all night but usualy cant remember them. I do remember about 3 nightmares in my entire life. One was where I used to be a guard in a huge aircraft factory building at lockheed in burbank. My job was prowling the buildings all night as I worked graveyard. Seems this was a sunday as no one but me was in the building where usualy there were many. As usual just a few lights were on in the huge building. I was walking on the top tier of a narrow walkway with the hanger floor about a 100 feet below. To day I could have showed you the exact spot but all those buildings were leveled close to 40 years ago.
There was a rough old janitor that worked there. I had nothing against him and he should have had nothing against me. This guy jumped out of hideing with a iron bar snarling and advanceing on me swinging the bar even though I had my revolver out and on him! As he got close I tried shooting him but the trigger was frozzen! Then I woke up in a sweat!
I told my best friend the dream. Bill was a guard with me and knew the guy better than me. He told me the guy was a satanist! I had no idea!
Another time I had a mentaly troubled nephew that was later diagnosied with paranoid schizophrenia. I did not know it at the time. He was threw out of the army after a couple months. His dad died and my sister couldnt handle him. He is even taller than me. We were sitting haveing dinner. My daughter was about 4 years old. I was giveing him a very mild admonishment that he should have been a help to his mother instead of being a loafer etc. All the sudden he started to shake, picked up a steak knife and informed me he was the meanist MXXXXX XXXXer in the world with a knife! My daughter and ex were between him and me.
To me it seemed like slow motion. It was like I couldnt get to him fast enough. My ex said she had never seen me move that fast.
I hit him a few times and knocked to the floor. Now I literaly was fighting myself to keep from killing him. It was weird! He now was screaming and crying like a little girl.
The strangest part was the next morning my dad called me to tell me a nightmare he had and check with me.
Dad said that one of wendies kids was like a baby in a cage and he was fighting himself not to kill it!
I honestly belive there is a unknown force out there.

I majored in Psychology and took a class on dream interpretation. That was 25 years ago, nearly, but from what I remember, these kinds of dreams usually only occur during a stressful time in your life. It's a subconscious recognition of your feelings of inadequacy (no jokes from the peanut gallery, please ) or general lack of control of the situations in your life. I have had similar dreams involving firearms and occasionally have one where my truck rolls over in slow motion in a low speed turn.

JOERM, I'm not sure why you would have these dreams consistently unless your life is just extremely stressful or you are constantly worried about something. Since I've never practiced psychology (and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night), I don't know what to suggest other than ridding yourself of the stresses in your life. Relax. Go shooting! If it really bothers you, you might consider seeing a professional counselor. There's never any shame in getting help with your life.

Note: The above advice, while mostly serious, was given partially tongue-in-cheek by a professional truck driver. Take it with a grain of salt. It does, however, carry a money back guarantee.

This is gonna sound wierd, heck, at the time, I thought it was weird myself.

I went through a 1-2 yr stage in my life, back in the mid-80's, where I dreamt almost every night, that's not the wierd thing, the wierd thing was that I always knew it was only a dream while it was happening.

It was almost like being in a movie where you didn't know the plot, script, or your fellow actors, until it went down.

If a bad guy shot, or stabbed me, no sweat, I'd just roll with it and fight it out always winning in the end. If I fell from a high building, or something similar, I would just hit the ground, get up and carry on.

Another thing about these dreams is that I could remember them, in detail, at least for a time........

During that time I worked closely with a guy for 8 hr's a day so we would talk about "things" to kill the time. One day I started telling him about the dream I had the night before and it got to the point, after things settled in at the start of the shift, if I didn't say something about them he would say, "Well, what happened last night?"

My wife was the same way, she wanted to hear all of the wierd details........

Just as suddenly as my "conscious dreams" began, one day they ended. After that, it was back to waking up when things got tough and no matter how hard I tried to have it the way it had been, knowing it was a dream, it just wouldn't work.

I really miss those "conscious dreams", they were the second best thing I've ever experience while in bed.

I worked as a graveyard night watchman for 35 years. (Thats got to be some kind of record.) It seems all my dreams are uncolorfull in gray. In many dreams it seems I am in rual areas kind of laying out in winter snow watching maybe a cabin in the dark or a village. It always seems I am like a scout for a group of people on the move but not really closely accepted as one of them.
In reality I spent uncountable nights of assignments doing similar, guarding classified articles alone nights in remote dessert locations. Also we were occasionaly tried out by a spook to keep us on our toes. I guess a persons job must affect your dreams. I have been retired over a dozzen years now and it seems I have variations of that dream every night!

In my dreams I have defective or the wrong ammo for the gun I have and the bad guy is coming. I also have guns in my dream I don't own or some that don't exist either.

I took Chantix when I quit smoking a couple years ago. I had wild dreams in techno color with it. It sure was nice talking with my long dead parents though as those dreams were very realistic.
