Default I feel dirty.... bought a H&K USP .40

I feel so dirty; I bought a H&K USP .40 Variant 3 for $400.00. The gun is in excellent shape, shoots wonderfully, and it came with factory hard case, factory installed night sights, three 13rd magazine total, and a Insight made H&K marked UTL MkII light. The gun was made back in 2002 and the night sights are still nice a bright. Figure I have another five years left in them before they need replacing.

Thing is I'm a GLOCK guy through and through.... never been a fan of H&K and I was not a fan of the fanatical fanboyism that follows H&K. Their prices are always high and the customer service is always low. I know GLOCK fans are a bit crazy but H&K fans make GLOCK Fans (myself included) look moderate.

Do I need to do thirty Hail Marys and flog myself with a GLOCK 33rd magazine?

Nice snag!! I really like the USPs - I was part of the trial program for the Bureau that led to us adopting the Glock. A bunch of firearms instructors were brought in to try out all the candidates vying for the contract from several manufacturers, and my favorite by far was the USP .40 Compact. My opinion obviously didn't prevail, since we wound up with Glocks, but I was thoroughly impressed with the H&K.

You Sir have had what is called a revelation. It happens to most Glock fans at some point in their lives. It occurs when they put down the kool-aid and accept that there are other excellent guns to be had on the market. And the USP is definitely one of them. No flogging necessary, just make sure you don't relapse.

No. Become a Protestant. We don't have to do things like that.

Let us know how you like the gun...and the service!

For $400 you did great.
The only complaint I have about their pistols is the proprietary rail that requires an adapter to fit anything usefull (unless you like boat anchor lights).

I shot an HK45 for two years in USPSA Limited 10. I had very good service from Sam at HK. I even had a new gun furnished, when one of mine was deemed to have a warped frame. German built HK's are not allowed to leave Germany with tritium sights. They used to be installed in the states before delivery. Some have luminous paint sights, and they seem to last longer. I've read the bad press also, but you have to consider the tactical personalities that buy these. I think they are first rate.

I had a USP .40 and it was the softest shooting .40 S&W that I have ever fired. It was a very easy pistol to shoot well. It was rather big and square but I had the V1 and the ability to put in cocked and locked mode. That seems like a very good buy to me. I like my S&W's but I also like lots of other makes.

I had a USP .40 but did not like the recoil and went with an all stainless P226 and was very pleased.

Congrats! HK's are the finest tupperware guns in exisitance. Accurate, reliable, well made and look good doing all that.

I wouldn't know about their customer service though. In 18 years of owning and shooting HK USP pistols I've yet to need customer service. Thats how it should be in my opinion. Regards 18DAI
