I just got a US Senate sign and put it in my yard at 12 noon today, by 4pm it had been stolen. Guess the guy he is running against is worried

Interesting story in my county. The long time incumbent was challenged by an 18 year old high school graduate and thought it was so ludicrous he was tearing down the kid's campaign signs and throwing them in the storm sewer.
Of course, he was caught on cell phone video and spent election day in jail awaiting arraignment.
Defeated at the polls and brought up on a Federal beef.

Stealing campaign signs placed lawfully ain't no joke.

I don't mind the signs so much during the election season, what DOES bother me is the ones still up 6 months after the election... They should fine the campaign offices if the signs are still up a couple of weeks after voting day.

How can you vote anonymous if you have signs showing who you support?

They do make excellent target frames.

We had, one year, a local radio station that wanted to do something about old campaign signs. They offered a dime each for all that were turned in. They only did it the one year, so I guess they had more come in than they expected.

We brought in a bunch of those corrugated plastic ones with the little wire frames, but we saw several, at the station, that some fool had sold for a dime each, that were a full 4x8 sheet of plywood on 8-foot 4x4 posts. Now, ply at the time was only like 7 dollars a sheet for 1/2 inch CDX, but still. I collected enough plywood to build a shed in the backyard. I dang sure didn't turn that in.

I have local politicians I support. I willingly place them in my yard, or allow those I support to do so. Other jerks see them and figure its OK to place theirs here, too. So I "steal" them and discard them in the garbage. Anyone has a beef with it, we'll have a go-round on the issue.

A few years ago some woman lost the election by maybe 40 votes, She demanded a recount, then claimed the victor stole the election. She had a sign across the road, secured by 2 wire ties. The top 2 tore out so the sign flipped showing the back. Every wind we got here between election day and about Christmas it would slam upward and make a booming sound.

Every time she kept the election issue alive in the local paper, I'd post a comment to it suggesting she take down her signs, and what a pain she and anyone else was who left their signs up that long. It was kind of fun because my constant harping on the issue defused her crying about losing.

I hate election signs. I realize they're a necessary evil.

We had a coach that worked at a Christian high school got arrested for soliciting prostitution. As you might imagine it was all over the news. Well a few days later a law maker was arrested for the same thing. Duh I think any body with any smarts would at least cool it for a while. We Americans sure can elect some dumb people. Don

Yes, they make great target frames. We have an ordinance here about how long election signs can stay up and them not blocking the view at junctions and all that. It is pretty universally ignored by the politicos from what I see, so removing the offending items is a civic duty.

Had a politician around here a couple yrs back that was paying some kids $1 for each of his competitors signs they brought to him. He got caught but as far as I know, nothing happened to him.

The seeming obsession many have with campaign signs doesn't say much for the sophistication of either candidates or voters.

Couple of claymores should take care of it.

I have picked up many of the signs BUT AFTER elections. As others have said they make dandy targets. Some of them stay for six weeks after elections so I do my civic duty and gather some of them on my way to a local lake.

Here in Kentucky we used to have a perennial governor candidate. His name was Gaitwood Galbraith. He was one of those loony guys who advocated legal pot. Hence everyone corrupted his name into Gaitwood Potbreath. So the last election his signs were everywhere. He apparently had a strong group of backers who put the signs out, no one to ever take them down. So after the election he up and died. As in dead and around no more. But his signs endured for months after that, as if he were still only a bad memory.

We used to put out a bounty on crows, foxes and assorted vermin. Most of our politicians seem to also be vermin. I'd like to see a tax (probably unconstitutional) on campaign signs. Just enough to make taking them down a break even situation. It would cleanse the streets!

Hey Lee, is it political to refer to politicians as vermin?
