Default Who Was Your Fictional Childhood Hero?

I loved the singing cowboys, Dick Tracy, Buck Rodgers, Capt Midnight, Sky King, etc. But when it came to TV heroes none tripped my trigger like ZORRO. The dude had it all, the coolest horse, the neatest costume, the best sense of humor and the most selfless quest. Into my teens I used to daydream abour rescuing fair maidens from Toronados back while laying waste to hordes of bad guys, with only a sword.
I just finished watching The Mask of Zorro on Encore. Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta Jones. An excellent family action movie. I highly recommend it.

That would have to be The Lone Ranger. He wasn't fictional though.... I met him once at a "personal appearance" thing. To a 10 year old he was certainly real anyway. Still have my silver bullet somewhere.

Jim Rockford was a favorite, and probably influenced me to become a Private Investigator.

But my real hero had to be Scooby Doo. He was so cool. (Along with those meddling kids).

For me it would be a tie between the Lone Ranger and Superman (George Reeves version). I actually had a Superman costume when I was around 5-6 years old. But yeah, Zorro was right up there close to them.

I didn't have any fictional hero's --- my late father, some friends and relatives, and many of my father's friends and associates, and others, served sufficiently as "hero's", exhibiting exemplary physical and moral courage, moral rectitude, intellectual honesty, leadership, persistence in the pursuit of truth, justice, and the "American way". These people served as role models, whose examples and standards I've strived to emulate.

I would have to agree. But he said fictional.

Both my parents are my hero's. My mother survived the Okinawa Invasion and my father survived multiple tours in Vietnam. Then managed to raise three kids on not much money.

You're going to laugh at me, but... Encyclopedia Brown. I liked the fact that the bookworm came out on top. It gave me hope.

Comic-book wise, Green Lantern. The fact that the power ring chose him; a man with no fear (oh, how I wanted not to be afraid) and was worthy to wield the power without it corrupting him.

I'm sure you all had a kid in school that was short, fat, clumsy, not athletic, wore thick glasses and always had his nose in a book. You know how he got treated. That kid was me.

Yeah, but do you have any idea how many bullets it takes to make a "Z" on a wall? Plus, you can't make a "Z" on your enemy's chest without killing him.

I'm just sayin'...

Yes, I know exactly what you're talking about. At least I don't wear glasses anymore (thank you, Lasik!). The other things, well...

FYI, my nickname in elementary school was Encyclopedia Brown. Wanna guess what my favorite hobby was?

I agree with the Duke, but for me it was a specific character...Rooster Cogburn! I was 5 years old when I saw True Grit in 1970. My parents had a hell of a time trying to convince me not to ride horse back with the reins in my mouth after that! I was somewhat impressionable.

Mine would have to be the Silver Surfer. On

I started with Encyclopedia Brown, then migrated to Tom Swift..........remember all those books? I read every one I could get my hands on. Young genius solves the world's problems, and outwits bad guys in the process. That was me, all right..........a little smartass!

The Ghostbusters were my favorite heroes. Ducktales was big too. I always liked Huey, Duey, and Louey.

They were really big in the mid to late 80's.

Like so many others, I tied a towel around my neck and pretended to be Superman.
And like so many others, I still sport a huge scar on my forehead where I split it open on the coffee table trying to "fly".

My all time favorite? Would you believe...

Sgt. Rock my favorite comic book hero.
Read that one as well, Do you guys remember Capt. Storm? He was a PT Boat skipper.

I would have to say my fav TV heros were Elliot Ness and the Untochables, then Joe Friday and Dragnet. Chip Saunders and Combat and The Man fron U.N.C.L.E. Robert Vaughn and David McCallum, who I can't believe is still acting as Ducky on N.C.I.S.

I was a huge Zorro fan, but before that, before my family had a TV, my dad would read to me at bedtime, and for a while my big heroes were Achilles, King Arthur and Sir Lancelot.

If "fictional" and "legendary" are more or less the same thing, than Davy Crockett was my main man when I was in kindergarten.

I love NCIS and you couldn't have a better cast than this.

My childhood hero is the guy who yelled "SHAZAM!" and become a super hero. Anyone remember who that was? Also I was really impressed with Kato in Green Hornet. Not til later I found out that was Bruce Lee. I enjoyed his movies.
