Default I SHOT A BARRETT YESTERDAY!!!!

It was a Barrett M82A1, first time shooting one of these and
let me tell you WOW!!!!!!!!!. A friend said he was going to get
one and I didn't believe him, shows up at the club the other night
and opened fire. What a gun and scope combo, nightforse optic
with the auto range finding was very cool. we where only shooting
at about 500 yards but where you pointed is where it hit. Once you
got past the noise the recoil wasen't bad.

Go find one and shoot it well worth it!!!!!

A couple of years ago I shot an AR 50 bolt gun. Most impressive. Good trigger, very accurate.

As you said, recoil was very manageable, what with the weight of the gun and the muzzle brake. I'd much rather shoot that gun than a shotgun with turkey loads off a bench.

The disconcerting thing was the pressure wave when the thing went off--it felt like getting smacked with a heavy feather pillow every time you shot it. Anything that was in the path of the wave from the angled brake was getting blown off the bench.

A lot of noisy fun!

If anyone gets a chance to shoot one, wear both ear muffs and foam plugs.

If one was never in the Military and had the opportunity to see what a fifty will do...it's quite an experience isn't it?

You should see what they will do to a vehicle or a structure with AP or API ammo.

I would love to shoot a gun like that. Slim chance here in the peoples republik of Illinoiz as there really isn't many places you can safely shoot one. I belong to a range that has a 1000yd line but won't let one one the range because of a chance for over-shoot. Too many things on down range to take a chance.

I'd also like to shoot something full auto but once again law prevents class 3 ownership in my beloved state.

Thanks for the thread, gjamison!

The Barrett is made in the county I live in. I haven't shot one but I saw a guy shoot one laying on the ground. When he fired the rifle he shook from his head to his toe. I think I would pass it's just not my thing. Don

How come no one makes one that is a bit more affordable? (besides the AR upper style)
A $2K or under .50 would sell a bit more like hotcakes.

I used to get a lot of requests to shoot mine. My response to this evolved into "I'll bring the gun if you bring the ammo."
Most guys just don't really want to shoot a semi auto 50 THAT badly.

Well, if you can chance a border crossing out of the Peoples Republic of Chicago (Its not actually Illinois anymore its Chicago and its suburbs) over here into Missouri I could probably fulfill your wishes. Over here in America we can own such nonsense and I happen to have some of those full autos and one of those half inch long distance hole punches.

At the indoor range I worked at, we had the backstop replaced and the new one was rated to contain a 50 BMG round, according to the factory rep. So I borrowed a M82A1 from EOD and used it to test the new range backstop...I figured the sales rep was BSing me. I fired 8 rounds on each side of the range (14 positions divided into two 7 point firing bays, 25 yds.) There were some people standing around watching but after the first couple rounds, they all left. VERY loud! We had those folding shelves between the firing positions which were in the down position at the time, and the muzzle blast actually made them swing back and forth next to where I was firing...from a prone position! I've shot the .50 quite a bit...M2 mostly, but that muzzle brake on Barret always felt like someone punched me in the nose. The backstop (Action Target) contained all the rounds and showed almost no signs of impact, so I guess the sales rep was right!
