Armed only with his trusty ctg. our hero defends against sortie after sortie. Can he withstand the unrelenting attack? Will his aim hold true under the glaring sun? What if ammo runs low? What then? Stay tuned........

I shot "Borin' Bees" like that once, I waited 'til they lit and went in the hole... put the barrel up to it and pulled the trigger.

That little 22 cal went through the 2x4 and hit the tractor.

Maybe you were using shot and had better luck.

Carpenter bees drill a real neat hole but once inside the wood they bore at a right angle, or left, I suppose, ifn' you're gettin pickey. They were out today, the pachysandra is in full fragrant bloom.

If you need to save a little on ammo, some Sevin dust in their hole will take 'em out, too.

The word carnage reminded me of my neighbor taking out a 'possum years ago.

One day I was over to his house and while standing on the porch I could see
down into the bed of his S10 pickup. On the far side of the bed wall I seen the
unmistakable pattern of a shotgun round.

I pointed and asked, "What the heck happened?"

He said, "A 'possum."

I couldn't resist so I followed up with, "A 'possum shot at ya?"

He then pointed over to a unused fuel oil tank sitting by the garage and down
by the bottom was a hole that looked to be from a 12 ga. slug.
Yep, that's what it was. The one in his truck was from buckshot.

After he explained his violent run in with a mad 'possum I asked why
he just didn't walk up and shoot it point blank. His response, and the way
he delivered it still sticks in my mind. He said it had "mean lookin' teeth".......

A couple of my "ex' shooting buddies had a falling out over shooting those things a few years ago. We used to shoot them all the time but I had to quit going with them. They actually wanted me to wait until they landed before I shot them. Now, at 25 yards, is that fair?

Pretty much the same "get-up" I use on the boring bees....kinda fun sitting on the deck with a cold drink, K-22 with shot shells in hand and sending the buggers to bee heaven. Hard to miss given they like to hover right in front of you.

I like to watch them go in their hole, and then put a stick in it. You can really hear them buzzing, like a bee cussing you out.

A badminton racket is also very effective against the black flyers. It makes a neat 'poinng' when you connect solidly. The score for this year so far is: Christians-16, Bees-0.

When the weather is nice I keep the outside door into my "man cave" open.

Many times a yellow jacket will fly in.

My sister in law gave me an electric tennis raquet.

You swat any type of bug with it turned on, and it zaps them most ricky tic.

It works great.

I had a neighbor shoot up his kitchen in a battle with a porcupine. When I asked him why it took so many shots he told me he was shooting from cover because he had heard that they could shoot their quills accross the room at you.

I heard the terrier making a racket in the kitchen around midnight last night. Armed myself with light and M39 and went to see what was up.

He was holding off a danged raccoon that was trying to get in the dog door. Since we are in the city and can't defend ourselves properly against wildlife without causing a ruckus, I convinced the raccoon to back out the dog door with repeated whacks on the nose with a broom, all the while trying to keep the dog from trying to eat the thing.

Not sure why this is relevant to this thread...

You know you don't have to kill them all. Just identify the ringleaders and make an example of them.

Reminds me of one of my runnin buds... seems his dog woke him and his wife up last fall. There was a possum in the back yard and the dog absolutely would not quit barking. Plan A was to just go out and shoot the offending ditch critter with his shotgun, but upon closer introspection he decided he didn't want to have to clean up the back fence. He therefore went into Plan B full steam ahead. He went out into the back yard and discharged his .357 into the ground to discourage said possum. Realizing he had committed a major faux-pas (as his neighborhood is in the middle of town ), he quickly retreated back in the house, locked his trusty possum pop shooter up, crawled back into bed and hoped the local LEO didn't show up. I think the possum made his successful escape over the fence and my buddy narrowly escaped a major embarrassment!

Blessings,
Hog

A lot of people are unaware that a porcupine has the ability to do that, I read that the projectiles can travel a distance of 10 Ft.

Some of you know about my hunting buddy, our 5 year old miniature dachshund, Missy. Well, last summer around dusk she was out in the back yard raisin' all sorts of fuss. I yelled at her to shut the "heck" up a couple times, but she wouldn't listen. Went out to see what all the fuss was, and she had a possum cornered. It was hissin' and spittin', she was barkin' and yelpin' right back. While I was tryin' to get her backed off of the critter, she decided to completely ignore me and attacked. Much to my surprise, the possum was dispatched in fairly short order. After I got her off her kill (darned proud of it too!) I checked her over for wounds, and there wasn't a scratch on her! Guess I was a little more worried than I needed to be.

Sir, dachshunds were originally bred to hunt badgers. A 'possum? Pfff. Piece o' cake.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

I wouldn't mess with a possum with anything less then a .357. They are one ugly animal.

Neat thread.

Last time I shot an insect and recovered the body, it was with a .45 . . .

Witnessed, by the way.

Gotta love the P90 - Mas calls it "the AK-47 of .45s", but that doesn't adequately credit its remarkable accuracy.

One of my most foolish feeling incidents was when I met my partner at a lake in wisconsin when I worked on the conservation dept there 50 years ago. We had left our boat upside down on the shore the day before. We turned it over and shoved off. A little later a large rat ran out from hideing, running back and forth from one end of the boat to the other. Each of us grabbed a paddle and swung at the rat while jumping in the air as it came on our end. This went on for at least 4 or 5 strikes apeice untill one of us connected and batted it out on the lake!

You younger fella's.

When I was young we used to shoot mosquitoes, on the fly, with BB guns,
at 30 yrd's, while walking to school, uphill in the snow, both ways, barefooted....

P.S. Don't even ask me why mosquitoes were flying around in the winter.
Times were tougher back in dem dare days.......

When you were young wasn't there dinosaurs running around in Michigan?

My favorite was the Wooly Mammoth!

Going to school wasn't too bad after I got one of those to ride there & back.
It was still uphill both ways though........

When I was a kid, I was out on a lake with a rowboat fishing. Along came another rowboat with two old coots in it (probably about my current age), looking at muskrat dens in the bank. I heard one yell "There's one!" and looked over to see one stand up, point a shotgun into the lake and run off 3 rounds trying to kill the swimming 'rat. The last round was fired on the followthrough and went through the bottom of the boat. I won't repeat what his buddy said.

My wife was reading this stuff over my shoulder and commented, "those guys really don't have anything else to do?".

Your wife sounds pretty perceptive, a trait that must have caused
you some problems over the years eh?

I got a rainbow trout with a 20 gauge pump shotgun one time. It was only 3" long though. Not one quail that day either.

Don
Shotshells!!! Why didn't I think of that. I could have saved all of those LSWCs.

Two problems with shooting those bees:

1- They are hard to clean.

2- It takes so many to make a meal.

Use a center fire rifle case with a magnum primer only -- all the bang and none of the blast!
