Meet Coda
She is 4 weeks old.
"Coda" means "tail" in Latin. She has a crook in hers. I wanted to name her "Aures" for "ears" because hers are pretty dumbo style...but some reason my daughter thinks "Aures" is hard to say.

Before I was married, I used to look for Coda all the time...but never came across one of those...

Coda looks older than 4 weeks and I don't think there's anything wrong with her ears. What's she holding?

I thought you named it after a Led Zeppelin album.
What is that? A rat?

I'm holding Coda, a baby rat, who has big ears and a crooked tail but likes to cuddle. No first name of Da Segno al or Da Capo al, she is just plain Coda.
She also likes belly rubs.
No baby ferret. They are regulated and you can't get them that young. And possums are just icky dirty and mean and there is no domesticated variety. Domestic rats are pretty good pets.

I had a pet rat once, but he got out once and I never saw him again. Saw some reports that he was hanging around with these turtle guys so I guess he's doin' ok...

I was married to a rat. She had a nice tail, but she was getting her cheese all over town.

LOL rats are like that. Either love em or hate em. I love them. The pet variety, anyway.
Whoever said I need a Maine Coon...eh. I've already got a couple of 15 lb tomcats. No more cats. Too much hair already. And these are trying to kill me as it is. You know, black cat hanging out at the top of the stairs in the dark, jumping in the shower with me, that kind of thing.

Well, there is also another Latin word for tail. But I couldn't bring myself to use it. we don't use it for "tail" anymore.

I googled up the "other" Latin word for tail & I see why you didn't want to use it!!

Fitting, kind of, since that other word is usually the impetus behind most tail-chasing.

My late brother had two hooded rats that he kept as pets - he named the Georg and Yortuk (he was a Saturday Night Live fan) - I never could get used to him walking around his house with those things on his shoulders.

If you think Coda is not getting any sympathy, just wait until somebody posts a pet snake picture on here....

Contrary to popular belief, rats do not like to be eaten by snakes. If you feed a "pet" snake a live rat, the rat will most likely bite or attempt to bite your snake. Since snakes are cold blooded if a rodent bite becomes infected it turns into a large problem. So snake people kill the rats before feeding. Killing the rat is supposed to keep the snake less aggressive, but I really don't think the snake gives a darn. My son kept a couple large snakes (red tail and reticulated) and I was rat executioner for a few years.
