Default Animal Shelter idiot

So...today I had to go to the local animal shelter for something and I was visiting the cat area and there were these two sorority types in there (in letter, perfect hair and makeup, chewing gum with their mouths open, loud) and I ignored them until one walked by a cage with an old sleeping cat in it, stuck her face to the cage, made a loud hissing noise, and then LAUGHED about it.

I came six shades of unglued and went off on her. I usually don't say anything to anyone...but I tore into her starting with how mean that was and asked how she'd like it if I went to the tiny cramped room when she was trying to sleep and hissed in her windows.

She left right away, without adopting (thankfully) and my daughter said it looked like she was crying.

GOOD!

I don't care if someone doesn't like cats. But I DO care if someone is mean or cruel to animals or small children.

Just..still kind of fuming about it, and it was too long for FB.

good for you….leave no injustice undone……….she will think about her actions in the future and fear that you may be just around the corner.

She knew it was wrong. I saw her look around before she did it. She didn't think anyone saw her.

Glad you put her in her place, I just wish she had tried that with my little box kitty...

Don't let the sweet smile fool you, she's an orphaned feral we rescued, and an alpha cat to boot. I have the scars to prove it! Still my buddy though.

Good job! You can play all the games you want to at home.
Cats feel secure there, and know that things will surprise them
w/o hurting them. At a shelter, they're already insecure, and treatment
such as you described could mean a nasty surprise for someone
with honest adoption intentions. Could make all the difference in the
world to chances for adoption or being put down. TACC1

I came up with a plan of attack for these types years ago. You see the key here is to not only keep these types from adopting now, but from adopting ever.
Next time take her quietly on the side and with your best " I'm so concerened for your health dear friend look", ask her if she knows that she is covered in ticks on her back and one has jumped from her hair onto you.
She wont be back.

As a kid growing up I never was a cat person probably due to being allergic to them. I was pretty indifferent to them, never loved them but didn't hate them either.

Many years later after I was married and the kids were in high school, an intact male cat walked into the yard one day, looked at me and said, "I'm going to be that guys cat". I tolerated him but wouldn't let him in the house. The wife and daughters fed him and fawned all over him but he'd always come to me. After the second trip to the vet getting him healed up after fighting, the wife had him neutered, I relented and let them bring him in the house and guess who's lap he curls up in?

The way he treats me and the look he gives me has caused me to feel a whole lot different about cats. I'd be the first to his defense if someone or another animal took him on. One day I was in the yard and he was hanging around me when a dog came by and took after him. We were out in the open with no trees to climb or anything to hide under so I reached out and snatched him up off the ground. Probably not the smartest thing to do but he didn't rip me up either, he just looked out over my arm at that dog safe as a bug in a rug.

That's the person you want to take to the zoo and tell them they won the grand prize. "You get to feed the steaks to the lion today!"

While I'm no particular fan of cats, I'm not into messing with them either. Good on you for "adjusting" the doomas.

Actually what the cat said was, "That's going to be my person." Like the saying I heard one time, "People do not have cats, cats have servants." It's also said that, "In ancient Egypt, cats were worshiped as gods. Cats have never forgotten this."

i was making a delivery to a house one time ,when a cat started walking towards me,and she was not happy, hissing and hair sticking up etc.

well being the determined and fearless delivery man , i backed up slowly ,got in the truck and left,no del. for that house.Turns out she had kittens under the house, any cat that will take on a man w/out being cornered,is a bad&%# cat,I often wonder what would have happened if i kept going towards the house.........probaly would have my 15 min. of fame telling my story from my hospital bed.

It is no secret I love animals, but particularly the feline variety. My friend, a dog person, says he doesn't understand why the meaner and crankier the cat, the more some of us love them. Neither do I, but that about covers it.

Not to mention, the LOLcat memes are a lot funnier than the dog ones.

Yes...Good! You did the right thing. I volunteer regularly at an animal sanctuary where I work with cats, and it is heartbreaking to see how some have developed a lifelong fear of people because of their bad experiences.

Good for straightening that nut out!! My wife adopted a stray cat that roamed the neighborhood while I was in Iraq. After I got home I figured "Darth" was OK and I took him to the vet for a checkup. Got the shots and he was good to go. Darth was our yard cat, both of us are very allegic to cats. A couple of years passed and Darth dissappeared. Our dogs got loose one day and ran into the acre next door. My wife followed and found the remains of Darth. It seemed he tangled with a rattlesnake and lost. Of course this all occurred while I was in Afghanistan.I still miss that cat!!

I wonder how many here tap on fish tanks? Same thing!

It was ignorance on her behalf, most likely. Hopefully she knows now.

I love my cats. They are unique in their disposition. We have a Maine Coon cat and I swear he's more a dog than cat. He plays fetch, he talks to us, and is always willing to help with whatever we're doing. His name is Pistol. We got him from a gal that let us shoot on her property. He was a little toot then and came running down the hill to us. I figured he'd take off when we started shooting but he just stretched on the bench and watched.
He's now going on 13 and we will grieve mightly when he moves on to kitty heaven.
The orange cat came from my mom's house 3 years ago after she passed away. He is tucked into my elbow while I type this.

I'm proud of you for calling the stupid beaoch on her actions.

Hobie
