Default What Guns Did You Clean Today?

Had a cleaning fit come over me.

Started with an H&R 926 that needs to go to the smith for a new rear sight blade. It didn't need much.

Next up was my M38. I've been carrying it a lot lately and it had collected some lint. Then I worked on my 649-2 and my 649. They'd been shot more and had lint, powder fouling and some lead residue from my 158 grain LSWC reloads.

I left the revolvers aside for a while to clean an Argentine BHP and a Mossberg 590. The BHP also had a trigger strut that had slipped out of place. I'll have to watch that.
The 590 is also going to the smith, for an extractor problem.

By then I had switched from Hoppe's to FP10. The Mossberg felt
a lot slicker with some FP10 on it. I would have used FP10 right from the start but I had to remember where I had put it.

I was about ready to quit but decided to do my M15 snub since all the stuff was already on the table. After I cleaned it I put some alcohol on the front blade to de-grease it. The front sight will go from blue to orange before I put the M15 away. My eyes need a little help
seeing the front sight these days. The 590 came with an orange colored front blade and it works well for me. I hope the same trick will work on my revolvers and pistols.

After shooting up North this weekend:

The Benelli M4 Super 90 [Tested iron sights, slugs @ 100 yds...surprised by accuracy!!!]

The S&W MP 15.

Springfield XDM 45 Comp.

S&W 327 PC TRR8

Only one that took a while was the shotgun, it had plastic residue that was a little harder to clean than usual...

It was a good weekend!

Well, since my cleaning started after midnight last night it was actually today
that I cleaned my M649, 649-3 & M64-2....

Two of the three passed the first round of reliabilty testing after
getting reduced weight springs. Last night, prior to cleaning, the M649 got
a stock weight mainspring put back in it due to two light primers strikes
out of 150 rounds, one with Blazer ammo & the other with Remington.

Tonight the M64-2 will get the 14 lb. rebound spring swapped out with
a 15 pounder due to a scary lightweight single action trigger pull.

After that it'll be on to round two, followed by another night of cleaning....

Len:
My 590 groups pretty well with slugs at 100 too.
But, at that range, drop is about 12 inches.

My cleaning was limited to:

- Model 28-2
- Model 686-6
- Model 5906
- Sig 1911-22
- Hi-Standard "Victor"

Was testing the Victor after "tuning" the magazine but grabbed the wrong ammo and still had a number of FTF's. The problem with this piece is finding the right food to feed it; once that is done it is a great shooter.

With the 686 and 28 I was comparing the DA trigger pull between the two. The 28 has a lot more rounds thru it so maybe the comparison isn't fair yet.

The Sig is the "warm-up" act and the 5906 was jealous being left home!

After going to the range last night...
This morning I finished cleaning my S&W 686 4" no dash, 686-4 6",
S&W 34-1 4" .22lr, and my Ruger MKIII 22/45.
I still need to clean my S&W 3913, Beretta 92FS and Beretta 8045F Cougar .45acp.

Way too many! Took a friend and his wife to the range so that they will be ready for their CPL class, ( not what you'd call gun people ) They had a ball shooting my S&W mod 18 along with a dozen other handguns, from .22's to S&W .40's. They thought at one time autos were what they wanted for carry but after playing with my wife's 640 .38 special and my 3" model 64 they fell in love with wheel guns. So here I sit, still cleaning, going to be at it for a bit longer!

Earlier this year I traded a Glock G-22RTF for a S&W 15-3 and a RIA 1911-A1. Today I took the RIA and ran 200 rounds through it. Tonight I gave it a thorough cleaning. It was not a hard job. Wonderful pistol. Really like the way that big 230 gr. slug hits steel plates!

K22, K38, Model of 1955 and a Colt OMM.

Aftermath of a weekend of 25 yard target practice.

My three most commonly used calibers - 22LR, .38 Special and .45 ACP. Can't make up my mind if I prefer the K38 or OMM. They both are outstanding in accuracy.

Spentr most of yesterday evening cleaning the old cone hammer Mauser pistol I just got. Lots of crud and rust came off the inside although the bore isn't too bad. Couldn't get the bolt apart nor get at the mainspring as the cone hammers are a little different in some of the details than the younger guns. There's rust in there, so I will have to get it disassembled by somebody who knows what they're doing.

I've built up quite a backlog of dirty guns: a K 22, a 27-2, a Model 39 and 59, and a Colt Series 70. If it's not blowing too hard tomorrow I'll add another Model 39 and a Mauser revolver. Perhaps Wednesday I'll spend most of the day in the gunroom, cleaning guns. I like to be caught up and I fret when I'm this far behind.

Default A going over

Howdy ,
We have our first pin match of the year this week end.
$1.00 a gun and if you have a gun they have a class for it.
I'm taking a rifle case and stuffing it with Ruger Redhawk in .44, Kimber .22 conversion on DK/S&W 1911, Armalite AR-24 9mm, S&W 4" 63, 6" Para Superhawg in .45, Ruger Vaquero in .357 and the 3 1/2" 27.
I'm cleaning all of them before I pack em today.
Looks like I have a little reloading to do too.
Thanks
Mike

Went for the first round of my bi-monthly range trips this A.M. So I just finished cleaning my 586, which I have not shot in several months. I was surprised by the amount of built up lead in the barrel. Later in the month I will shoot another revolver then clean it.

A rasafratsin Mosin Nagent 91/30 trying to get the 60 years of accumulated stuff out of the barrel! I cleaned it today, yesterday, the day before, etc. In fact, I've soaked the barrel overnight in Hoppes 9 every night for a week and still getting patches out that are blue/black. It may be time to order some Sweet's 7.62 or J-B Bore Paste. Any recommendations as to which one?

Get some Kroil and soak the bore with it and let it sit overnight. Then run a patch with J-B Bore Paste through it 20-30 times while the Kroil is still in it. You will find stuff that you thought was already cleaned out. Run patches through it until they come out clean.

I have started using Slip2000 725 CLEANER / DEGREASER after firing Berdan primered ammo. It is water based and does a good job cleaning the bore. I run a patch with RIG on it after cleaning it to protect the bore. Be sure and run a patch through before firing it again.

Last weekend I visited my son in Houston and we went to a local range so that he could shoot a couple of guns of mine.

Yesterday I cleaned my HK USP .45, 624 6", and Charter Arms Bulldog Pug .44. Tonight I still have to clean my Walther P-1.

The 624 shot the smallest groups for both of us.

Only one today. Colt 6720.

I had feeding problems the other day and being 5 days old today I needed to double check the system before bringing it back to the GS.

Idiot! Pmags will take 31 rounds if you don't count...That Colt ate lead really fast with No Problems. Love it!!

I cleaned my wife's Winchester 1200 just for the hell of it. Had a little spare time, it was nice out, so I opened the garage door and cleaned the shotgun in the sun.

Stgraightshooter 2: I've used both Sweets and JB. Both work just great. I think JB is a little easier to use, but either will do the job. The secret is plenty of elbow grease.

Default Took My 8 year old Grand Son shooting today

We shot the M-34-1 and the M-63, both .22 LR. I hope I was able to show him the correct way to respect an handgun and the people around him. Showed him the difference between Single and Double Action, explained the sight picture and let him shoot a single round to begin at single action and progressed to several full cylinders of .22LR and double action. We did have proper ear & eye protection so we would not cause any damage to the ears or eyes.
After our session we returned home and proceeded to disassemble the revolvers for their proper cleaning. Explained the cleaning procedure and let him experience that also.
An interesting side was the fact that this M-34-1 employs the ball and hammer type of action with the coil mainspring so I wanted to show him and try to explain why the M-34-1 action was smoother than the M-63. We took them down to the point where the hammer was removed from the frame and viewed the difference between the ball & the fork. He seemed interested and was very attentive, I appreciated that. I'll take his sisters next. A very enjoyable cleaning session, take a Kid Shooting, its our future!
