Canadian gun owners big win!!!!
Hello all! Some of you may remember a presentation I gave at our at our show in Albuqerque, 1996, regarding the new Canadian gun control laws which had just come into effect in our country. One main thrust of the new law was the registration of all rifles and shotguns. This required a firearm to be registered by our government. Each time that firearm changed hands it had to be re-registered to the new owner.
The gun control bill has many other impediments for gun owners, but , the requirement to register the "long guns" has been cancelled by Bill C-19 which came into effect April 06/12. This is in part due to many many gun owners protesting loudly to government over the past 17 years. This is very good news for ALL gun owners . Great for us here in Canada, and it gives you folks in the U.S. facts to help in your own fight against any sort of registry your government may try to force on you.
Looking forward to meeting old friends and meeting new ones in Kansas City in 2013.

That is great news!!! A step in the right direction.
Now, if they could get a Canadian version of the Castle Doctrine enacted...

Wonderful news! Now, get to work on the handgun laws.
This shows that not all Canadians are state-centered, meek socialists!

Good for you! There was only one reason for the registry
in the first place. You may never get any slack on handguns,
but at least you've got the long-arms back under your own
control. TACC1

Thanks! There is a movement in place to start putting some common sense into our hangun laws. With our present government things may not be impossible. We shall be working hard to get some things changed while this party is in power,,and ,, work hard to keep them there!

Best of luck!! I often wondered, but never researched, but what is Canada’s Constitution’s equivalent to the USA’s Constitution’s Bill of Rights 2nd Amendment?

Great news. I wish California would roll back our stupid "record of sale" requirement for long guns. Record of sale is code for Registration.

As it stands , in order to have a handgun in Canada, first one must have a licence to purchase, which involves a 2 day safety course and back ground check. Then before one can purchase you must belong to a gun club. Once you get your lic. and a club membership , you can purchase. However in 1996 when all our present gun control laws came in effect, the classification of hand guns changed. Any handgun of 25 or 32 cal { S&W K32 6"} or having a barrel length of 105mm(4.1") was classed as prohibited and only those of us who owned them prior to 96 were able to keep/purchase them. So any one new to the sport can never own one of these. S&W mod 10 with 4" for example is prohibited. As well no one can import short barrels. All the nice new compacts you folks enjoy can not be brought into Canada.
The only place we can use our handguns is at an approved range and we are subject to transport permits to and from said range. They do give us a yearly permit for this but still very restrictive. As well during transport the firearm must have a trigger lock on it and be in a locked case. Keeps the criminals sake I guess! There is much more, but in a nut shell that is it.
I forgot to mention that each time you purchase a handgun it must go through the same registration process , taking up to 2 weeks before you can get it in your hands. Enjoy the freedoms you have and never never give them up. Look what we let happen here!

I think I see why new Ruger .357's come with 4.2-inch barrels. By such is the socialist state made safe!
Do Canadians even have the basic right of self defense?

Brian, it is so nice to hear from you. Glad to know that you are still around and that you are going to make the KC Show next year. I have a question about a gun Ray bought from you years ago. If you could private message me with the best way to contact you, I will look up the info when I get home and get with you. Take care.
