Default 45 SLIDES - WHICH ONE

Hello
I while back I posted about putting a new slide on my Springfield with a 22 slide on it. I do not have the original slide, and I need one.
I was advised to contact Springfield about a new slide. After being in contact with them many times, I have gotten no where. I have learned that they will not sell me a slide for my gun. I would have to go through the custom shop and the cost would be very high as the slide would be competition grade.
I am back to looking for a slide. The question that I have is the type of slide that will fit the best.
I have found a bunch of slides, but I favor the Colt slides as the Springfields do not come up for sale that much.
I have it narrowed down to a series 70 and a series 80 Colt slide. From everything I have read, it seems the 70 would be the best choice. It seems the 80 has a firing block or something to that affect.
Can anyone fill me in on this?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The Series 80 Colt has a firing pin block allowing hammer down carry on a loaded chamber (if one so desires). This block is pushed up by a lever mounted in the frame that is activated when the trigger is pulled. Any frame not equipped with this lever will not work with a Series 80 slide. (I don't know if the firing pin will still function if the block is removed and I'm not going to try it on my Series 80 Commander to find out) So if it's a choice between those two, you need a Series 70 slide.

Remember that Colt slide may not be a drop-in fit. I found a Mark IV slide-small letters-for my trusty Colt Mark IV Series 70-large letters. I had to use grinding compound-a very TINY amount, of course-to get a Colt Mark IV slide to fit on a Colt Mark IV frame.

you could always get a caspian slide. just remember, you will have to fit your barrel to it as well. I know Fusion sells kits and they fit barrel to slides in those kits and come ready to fit to a frame - you may want to go that route because the rails will likely be a bit oversize so you can lap them together - you risk getting a slide with rails that are too narrow on an old slide due to the fact they may have been lapped to fit some other existing frame. not absolute just throwing out some things you may run into.
