If it's totaled you can still get it fixed. The insurance company will give you the retail value (in its pre-accident condition) minus the current salvage value and I think your deductible.

Example. $4500 retail value - $1000 salvage - $500 ded. You keep the vehicle and get $3000 to fix it up. Don't worry about the cosmetic things when repairing it (such as chrome trim, etc.) and maybe you can get it repaired without any additional out of pocket money. You may also need to apply for a rebuilt title with the state.

Main thing is you are all right.
I'd rather see you shed a tear over a lost vehicle, than have your family shed a tear over a lost loved one.

Sheet metal is just sheet metal, bendable and disposable. If you haven't already get yourself to a doctor and get checked out! I know, you're tough, but trust me when I say that 30 years from now you will regret it if you don't go get fixed. I can post my pics of 4 missing discs and 6 fused vertebrae in my neck for proof if you like......

Glad you're still with us. With luck the truck frame won't be bent.
Remember to pop some ibuprofen before you hit the sack, it'll help.
Please post tomorrow on you and truck. Good luck, TACC1.

As long as you're good everything else is replaceable.

As far as getting new wheels, most cars are more dependable then you think. One option would be to get a cheep temp car while you save up money for what you really want. Early 90s Honda Accords are great for this. They are cheap, usually a thousand or under, they will have mileage and might not look pretty but they last and last. And if they dont parts are super cheap. I remember seeing engine rebuilt kits for like $50 or some stupid low price like that. And in the end you can always sell it or use as trade in along with what you saved to get the car you want.

A few friends of my did this. It paid of for them. One bought a 91 Accord with 160k and the usual rust for $600. Did a timing belt and water pump change just in case, drove it for a few years not changing a thing. Sold it after graduating college for $650 with almost 300k. Made $50!

Glad you are ok outside of being really sore, sounds like it could have been a lot worse. You have my sympathy for having to drive in Houston, it scares me to death, so does Dallas. Keep your head up, things will turn around for you.

make sure you're OK that it is just a sprain. In a couple of months sibmit your medical bills and they ought to trow you a little on top to settle the claim. GIve you a bit more money to fis up the vehicle.
If they ever total out my suburban, I'm toast!!1999 with 334000 miles-it's blue book probably fluctuates based on how much gas is in the tank at any given moment
Well, actually they already have totaled it out! Forgot about hitting the uninsured mexicans in Texas a few years ago. Sent me a check and I was able to take the family out to dinner with it and buy school books for the kids-Figured out it wouldn't increase the value to fix the fender so I just left it as is. I'm such white trash

Glad you are OK. The vehicle is replaceable - you are not.

Did your airbags go off? If so, it will be uneconomic to repair.

I never knew how much pain ligaments and tendons could generate until I had a car wreck several years ago. You need to see a doctor. I was foolish and didn't keep up with the pain medication my doctor prescribed. Don't be like me...be smart! I was never very materialistic and never worried about my vehicles after an accident. I just knew that I needed to get some money to buy new transportation.
