the Ad's are growing
I know why we got the ads, but mine are growing in size.
What used to be contained in a 2" column, is now 4 or 5" wide. Did I do something to bring this on. Nearly a third of my screen is now ads for kotex or whatever else I don't need.
Are your ads growing?

Yep, mine are considerably larger than before. I, like some of you thought it was a glitch with my computer or something like that.

I was just going to post something about this. Do we really need them to be this large?

Using the control key (ctrl) and the minus key (-) together will reduce the size so you don't need to scroll.

Hey guys.
I clicked on the Deals on Heels ad and it took me to a ladies shoes website. They got ads for Midway, Brownells, and Burris Firefire III's.

They make my computer scroll much slower. I thought it was this stupid HP laptop, but no, it's the ads.

It goes with the internet, which is becoming one big advertisement.
Facebook's IPO was today. I read somewhere that instantly Facebook became the second largest capitalized corporation in the world. The only way they raise that kind of money for the IPO is by selling more advertising than anybody else.
Kinda sick, but that's how we keep getting more free content.

Yeah, on an old aspect monitor the ads are way too big. On a 16:9 I suspect they are less in your face. Whatever, they will shortly drive me away. I feel like I am sitting on the slant or something with all that BS on the left.

I wanted to meet Peggy and Victoria Secrets are much better. Maybe if we all became GOLD LEVEL the ads would disappear or get smaller?
I'd rather see these ads than the stuff on TV.

Yes, the ads are larger, with more womens shoes and Obama ads.
How about something like Bass Pro, Cabelas, Dicks, Jack Daniels...

If they would just put the ads on the right side third of the screen I can't see without scrolling all would be fine.

Life would be great if they just put the Advertisements at the bottom of the page and it would be easy to deal with...but, what the heck do I know!
BTW - I think the reason for the left column growing is the size of the VID (Webroot) advertisement. All they have to do is change the VID width...

Not only are they bigger, they are sucking up a lot of my (limited) band width and slowing everything down to a nearly unacceptable speed.

The S&W Forum is probably the best I've perused in 15 years. You'll note that most gun websights don't have a "lounge" because of the time consumed by moderators "policing" them. I'm sure the new ad structure is due to the cost of upkeep of this sight.

I find the fact that the board "knows" I've been shoe shopping, pet cage shopping, and sound mixing console shopping a little more disturbing than the ad size.
Only a little more, and I wasn't much bothered in the first place.
I don't know if it helps, but some boards it does, depending on the agreement. If it's something in which I'm truly interested, I do click on the occasional ad, on the slight chance that the board has a click-through agreement with the advertisers and I might actually find what I seek.

There was an ad inside the first post of a thread that starting talking and playing video a couple of days ago. I don't think I clicked on it. Might have passed my cursor over it.

Please report any such ad.
You can give us the URL after clicking it IF there is no button on the ad itself to report it with.
I just cleared cookies and temp files.
The sh0e ads and W0rld 0f War*craft disappeared and I'm getting gun, ammo, and car ads.......

WHAT? The adds are getting larger? I'm so excited about having access to the forum 24/7 that l hadn't really noticed! ...much... Seriously... I just ignore them and they don't seem to bother me.
Blessings,

This is how the magic of google works
You visit a wed site, google adds a little tiny bit of data to your computer. It says you went to this type of web site. You come to the forum, google looks at this data and think you are interested in the types of things you visited in the past and will give you ads based on that info.
Start going to web pages on gym equipment, you will gets ads for related items and so on. Most of the ads you see are unique to your internet use, they are "targeted ads"
Other ads are just relevant to the subject matter, like midway or brownells type stuff.
On another note, I am guessing that the reason we are getting more ads is because the forum needs more money to meet its operating and carrying costs. The owners have said in the past they arent really looking to make money here but not lose to much either.
So if we want less ads, donate money to the forum or click on the ads. Ive said this before, clicking on the ads generates revenue for the board. So many of the relevant ads are probably places you visit anyhow.
So next time you go to one, go through a ad based in the forum. This is an easy way to help
I'd reckon that with no ads, their is no forum.
The final thought is that the ads could be MUCH MUCH worse. Like pop-up, redirects and so on. They can also disappear for paying members, humm. Kinda like Platinum members get no ads, thats a thought.
Nothing is free...
Edit.....
Thank you for adding the Google search dialog box

Open up Tools. Then click on Options/Commands/Ads/ then click on Shrink. There is also an option for Larger but you don't want that.

The major thing that bothers me about ads on any forum is the flashing and jumping around or moving as you scroll vying for your attention...that's what's aggravating. So is videos with sound.

I just noticed a disclaimer on a tv program that read: "The following commercials are brought to you with minimal program interruption". And remember when you could change channels to avoid ads? Not any more. They co-ordinate the timing so you can't get away from them.

I bought a new lap top about a year ago. I had thought my old one hopesly crashed. In the last 4 months or so my new one freezs then just creeps when I scroll down the threads on this site. (Not on others). Since this new ad thing I have about given up. The other day I dug out my old computer and it ran this site better than my newer computer. However with the old computer I cant go to another site or favorite without shutting down and restarting the computer. That isnt a problem with that computer if I am on a different site. Did we always have ads on this site? If not, it seems all my trouble started and progressively got worse since the ads started.
I have never understood computers and how these sites ran, or the cost of running one. I belong to a ATV club here. We have a web site. Cedar City ATV Club in Southern Utah
At our meeting a few nights ago they sais that for some reason they are switching web host, provider, or whatever you call it and useing someone else. The new guy was there and frankly answered questions and volintieered a lot of extra info. I was really amazed that he is chargeing our club only $5 a month! He said they are going to the ad thing and he will get something like 10 cents to 25 cents every time someone clicks on a ad. He encouraged us to use the ads of course. This hasnt happened yet, but is suppose to happen in a few weeks. If it ruins or slows down my computer it wont be worth it! I dont have this trouble on sites that doesnt have the ads. Is a lot of my trouble because I dont buy spywear or norton etc? Seems I did when I bought the computers but didnt renew it.
I admit to being dumb on these things. We also have a seldom used old desk top that I tried and that seems to zip right through the posts here but even with that one I now have to click around or stop the computer and restart it once I read a post to get back to the lounge. No offense intended here, but all these problems seem to be with all three computers just on this site and not on my other favorite sites. Any suggestions?

I have no problems using Window 3.1 with the Mosaic web browser (ver. 1.0) on dial-up. I just hate updating stuff.

That is a crime committed by most webpage writers these days. They assume you have a fast computer with a minimum of a 1.5 MB/s link to the web. I have long said that all webpage designers should be forced to write their pages in a shack off the US 95 at Stonewall Pass, NV. I would reckon a dial-up at that location might manage 28k on a good day. That should encourage them to get some of the lard off their programming habits.

Too bad they've ruined this forum.
I'd paid in to support it, but now don't visit it much.
