Default NRA's Self Defense Insurance?

My email has a solicitation from NRA to sell "self defense" insurance, which on quick review, apparently offers reimbursement for legal costs incurred defending oneself from criminal charges and civil suits arising from self defense use of force. Anyone with credentials ( not to mention any names, but those of you who reside in The Land of Enchantment and the Gret Stet of Louisiana know who I'm talking about...) have any opinion on this insurance? My friend Alan Korwin makes a compelling argument for making advance arrangement for legal representation against the possibililty of needing it, in his book "After You Shoot ..." (gunlaws.com) One issue he raises is the staggering cost of defending oneself, even if it's ultimately deemed a justifiable use of force. Such insurance would seem to be a bargain at its advertised price, but what do I know...?
