Well, that's a shame. My wife and I and our girls have gotten so much enjoyment out of the Andy Griffith Show -- we've got all of them on DVD. We'll be watching them in his memory over the next few days.

I believe he was a good guy who didn't embrace the Hollywood thing. A friend was an ER doc out at the NC coast several years ago when Andy came in after cutting his hand doing yard work. He was completely down to earth and invited my friend and his wife to dinner at his house.

It sure seems like there aren't many good guys on television today like Andy Griffith. All of my favorite actors from when I was a kid are passing. Sure makes me feel old.

R.I.P., Andy.

I still enjoy watching "The Andy Griffith Show" daily...it is in syndication on one of the channels we get. Much better than most of what you see on TV nowadays!

RIP Andy Griffith, a true gentleman and TV icon.

Growing up with the first name Andy and a last name that starts with the letter G, I was called Andy Griffith alot and never liked it. Only as I got much older did I come to appreciate the man and his talent. R.I.P.

He was as good or better a man than he played on TV and that can't be said about many. Everybody he met was a friend and he I can't recall one incident or tale for that matter where he was anything but a Christian gentleman. R.I.P Andy, the Nation and the Hill in particular are saddened by your loss. I think about you every time I walk by where the Rat used to be. God Bless you and your family.

Default Andy Passed this morning

Boys,

We lost a goodun today. I grew up with Andy and Barney and Goob, etc. There was a message in every single episode of Andys show. Most all of it was based on the way "I would like to see us go back to once again." It was corny, funny, stupid, slapstick, etc. But it made you feel good to just be alive. I think each of us, in our own way, wished we could have lived in Mayberry with Andy and the crew. Maybe, just maybe, we did.

Rest in Peace Andy, you are a goodun.

Regards

Bill

No one didn't like Andy Griffith. I'm saddened to hear of this. God bless his immortal soul and may his family bear their grief by knowing he was almost certain to have made the list for getting into heaven. He was a treasure.

I spend the last day helping a friend prepare a car for the 4th of July parade. The car is a copy of the Mayberry patrol car. My job was to create the CD with sound bites from the show in between repeated opening song "The Fishing Hole" otherwise know as the Whistle Song. I must have listened to the Whistle song 100 times in the last couple of days. It will be bitter sweet to see the car in the parade tomorrow.

RIP Andy Griffith.

I always thought my father was a lot like the Sheriff of Mayberry...always enjoyed the show...when I got to watch "such foolishness on the television" as my dear mother would say. I can only imagine what she would think of TV today.

Even though he wasn't "Andy Taylor," and he also put on his pants every morning like all the rest of us (except those of us who don't wear pants) and he made mistakes and I didn't always agree with his views, he will always live on as the likeable, humorous and witty Sheriff of Mayberry.

Just to mention as a possible coincidence, the pastor of my chruch gave a sermon this past Sunday entitled "Mayberry Isn't Mayberry Anymore."

This was always one of my favorite episodes. I especially like the end where Andy suggests the "woodshed" and where Opie says "he is one of my own kind". I am over 50 years old, have probably seen all the episodes 100 times and I will continue to watch them until I join Andy myself!

Unquestionably an immensely respectable man. Also one of the best, if not the best, TV shows ever made. Those writers were geniuses. Some scenes are emblazoned on my memory. The one that sticks out the most is when he took his date "crow-shootin' " -hilarious!

That was when TV was decent entertainment.

Default I think I have told this story here before but this was my encounter with Ange.

I was and am a big fan of the show and the CHARACTER portrayed by him but a few years ago I learned reality is not always what you imagined.

I was assigned to baby set a movie production effort while they were filming for a few days in one of our parks. It was one of those that are released on video in Bulgaria because it was so bad even with some "names" in it. One of our home grown fellows, Billy Bob Thornton was the lead and he was his same old wacky self.

I am not too excited about politicians, actors, or other celebrities (well maybe Skeeter) but did look forward to seeing Andy when I learned he was in the movie.

On the day he was to shoot his scenes the movie folks came over and told me not to speak to him or even look at him when he came by me.Said he did not wish to be bothered. I was amazed, Andy?

When he got out of the van and walked by with in 3 feet of me I didn't speak but I did look and he gave me the stink eye, one of the meanest facial expressions I have ever seen on a person. Same routine ever time he passed me over several days.

Wish I had kept my other memories of him and the television show and not what I saw in person.

Rest in Peace Mr. Griffith, maybe no one is bothering you now.

The film by the way was "Daddy and Them", bad. very bad.

It was a great show and proof that a television show can be entertaining without violence, bad language, or sexual content.

Please let me me the show number so I can send it to my girls, we had alot of fun with that in the St. Marys at Traders Hill camping.....

Andy Griffith was not Andy Taylor. Shilling for the leftist AARP and even worse, using his character in that Mayberry themed propaganda campaign commercial for Obama with Ron Howard in 2008 sickened me.

He was a heck of an actor. Just watch "A Face in the Crowd" to see him play the antithesis of Andy Taylor. Great movie.

I too didn't like his shilling for AARP and Obamacare but I will grant him a pardon since I think his roles on T.V. more than made up for it by continuing to teach American values and traditions.

R.I.P. Andy Griffith

Andy Griffith was a superb actor and Sheriff Taylor was a lovable character.
Don't confuse the character portrayed by an actor with the character of the actor.

Andy leaned left, it was no secret to anyone who knew anything about him. That however, was on healthcare and other issues he viewed as human rights issues. That does not make him a bad guy or change his legacy, it was who he was and he never hid it. Last time I checked, I think people were free to have their own opinion. I'm definitely not someone supports many of the left's positions, but that does not mean everyone who supports universal healthcare is evil, get a grip. He bought O's act first time around, I doubt he would have supported him this time around.

...and to answer another post, after he had GBS and a quad bypass he was not physically what he once was and it showed in his attitude from time to time, I remember him stating he was ashamed of acting like an *** when he was suffering....maybe, others don't, but most people I know have good and bad times.....I try to judge people by the sum of their character, not the rough spots.

Bottom line, he had an extremely positive influence on the culture and the way several generations grew up, far more than any of his critics have or ever will have. That is not debatable and that is what truly matters.

While flipping thru the channels today, I saw something that surprised me. As I stated earlier in this thread, I have seen all the episodes of "The Andy Griffith" show many times. I stumbled upon, what I thought, was a never seen (by me) episode. In actuality, it was an episode of Danny Thomas's show "Make Room For Daddy". It was to gauge audience response for their upcoming TV series "The Andy Griffith Show'.

Some of the characters were the same. Andy, of course was the same. Ron Howard was Opie, his son. Frances Bavier was "Henrietta the Widow", instead of Aunt Bee. In the Danny Thomas introduction, Andy did speak of an Aunt Lucy who cleaned the jail and did the cooking. Frank Cady (the store owner from Petticoat Junction and Green Acres) played Will Hoople, the town drunk. It was very interesting to see. You can see most of it on Youtube if you care to see it.

When I first came to the States I had no idea what an influence Andy Griffith had on Americans of my age. I only knew him from his wonderful portrayal of a villain in one of the Naked Gun films. Yesterday, my sister-in-law called me in tears after hearing of his death. My late wife used to watch the reruns and the bird we had when we were first married would answer the theme tune. After he died we had a running gag where I would whistle and cheep instead when the show came on. Uh-oh, I can't see the keyboard any more...

Sorry, I liked his show some, but I lost all respect for him when he became a Socialist endorsing certain issues. I don't political rant here, and this is the fullest extent I will go here; his "Mayberry" character was very endearing, but he was a complete loser to me after his commercial a few years ago.

I respect your opinion, but as I get older, I try to avoid religion and politics when judging people or forming relationships. I tend to view people by the sum of their attributes and negatives and ask the same of them towards me.

I know of only one person who was perfect, and He was treated very shabbily at the end of his life.

This life sized sculpture of Andy and Opie here in a Raleigh park has become a local memorial this week. I took the pic several years ago.
