I see some folks are able to enter them into strings and I have no darned idea where that setting is. Can anyone helps the blind/unobservant?

I don't get any such display to the right. I have the option for the post icons, but not to put any in the text as far as I can see.

Thanks for the screen shots. They make the message clearer. I wonder if there is a setting I need to address for this site, like allowing popups or something.

Looks like it was turned off in your user profile. I switched your default editor - you should be able to follow VPNavy's instructions now.

For future reference - Upper left corner - Click UserCP - Then click edit options. Lots of fun stuff there....
