Default How badly do trigger shoes mark the trigger?

Not sure if this belongs in Smithing, but the Lounge seemed more appropriate.

I'm considering bidding on a gun with a trigger shoe. I don't want the thing and would remove it if I won the gun. I know that anything attached with a set screw leaves a mark; I'm wondering if anyone has a gun which formerly had a trigger shoe. Do the set screws leave grooves in the trigger, or just a minor mark?

I don't think I would mind it if it isn't terribly noticeable and can't be felt.

Thanks, friends.
Andy

Depends on how tightly it was attached. I've seen many which had twin circles through the case coloring, and a few which had nary a mark.

If a guy owns it, probably not...but if it belongs to a woman, chances are the shoe is on very tight.

Most of the ones I either owned or seen had some very deep marks on the side of the trigger.

However, on a shooter that's priced right, I don't really care.

When I see those I bid accordingly, expecting to see at least two scratched up areas where the set screws were. If you remove it and there are no marks then you got a bargain Good luck!

And don't forget...if the shoe has been on along time, the trigger is going to smell pretty bad.

More than likely there will be two circles from the set screws. They can be polished out but then the trigger would have to be refinished unless you want to leave it raw. If the screws were not "Gorilla tight" and the Shoe was not on for very long the damage would be less evident, although still there.

Took one of that had been on 37 years the other day, to my good fortune no rust, discoloration and the screw marks are next to invisible. My wife has taken a liking to the M17 but hated the trigger shoe-if it gets her to shoot more and enjoy it,fine with me.

I removed one form a K38 that looked to have been on it for "years", and couldn't see any evidence of it having been there. Maybe I was just lucky.

Thanks, fellas; sounds like I'll just have to take my chances and not be too picky.
