Must be because I知 male.
My wife obtained 10 gallons of tomatoes from a co-worker and decided to make salsa. To expedite the process she borrowed a food processer from my Mom. This food processer has probably not been used in 10 years but was still stored in the original box with packaging and paperwork. So it looks like new.
My wife sets it up and the food processor would not work. She calls me in and I can稚 get it to work either. Thinking it must be a loose wire I take it apart and start trying to determine the problem. Seeing no wiring problem out comes the volt meter and I start checking continuity in connections and switches. I still find no problem so I put everything back together.
I知 sitting there wondering what a new food processer is going to cost me and idly pick up the instruction sheet from the table and start looking it over. Suddenly a light (dim, but a light none the less) turns on in my brain. Reaching over I rotate the lid to the food processer 180 degrees, plug it in and push the button. The stupid machine purrs to life. The safety switch that prevents the motor from starting with the lid off was not being engaged with the lid in the wrong position. Had I looked at the instructions first I could have saved myself a little time.

As they say, RTFM. Of course, nobody ever does, not even the women.

She figures you're a guy, so, heck - it's YOUR job.
And, maybe it is.

At least the directions sounded like you could understand them.
I've seen some where if they had a lid that needed to be tightened
down for the unit to work they would describe it something like this.
Important:
The upper vessel containment panel must be rotated 180 degrees from the
central, neutral, position in order to engage the actuator. Failure to fully
seat the upper vessel containment panel prior to rotation will also prevent
the unit from functioning. Please see section 2/12 for further details.
Section 2/12 will say: Please see "troubleshooting."

One of the funniest things I ever read was a users manual for a milling machine. It had been made in China and the manual had obviously been translated from a Chinese-English Dictionary and printed without being proof read by someone (perferably a machinist, but it probably would have made no difference) who actually spoke English.

Arik, I'd put mine in my shredder too if I could figure out how to work it.

I hope you went to your wife and told her "after taking this complicated machine apart, I found its many problems, fixed them, and now it runs like a fine watch!! Remember, men can fix anything."
We will keep your secret.

About 40 yrs. ago I bought a riding lawn mower with a pull rope. The instructions stated the blades had to be out of gear for it to start. I cranked until I gave out and it wouldn't start. Called dealer and it would be 2 days before he could come out. I rest up and read instructions again and crank until I give out. This goes on all evening until I am exhausted and the most angry I have ever been in my life. Several hours later I get to thinking about the blades out of gear and thought that the blades just being out of gear wouldn't have anything to do with starting UNLESS there was a switch that had to be pushed when the blades were not only out of gear but the lever would have to be all the way to push the switch. I go push the lever and it will move about 1 in. farther. I pulled the rope and it cranked. Reading instructions doesn't help unless you really understand what you are reading. Larry

You were right OP. The "man code" troubleshooting tree was followed corectly...
#1) Always try to re-wire first.

Ever buy anything from Ikea. You can build them without instructions. You'll just have to build the same thing several times. Ask how I know.

While you have maintained your "Man Card" you must always remember your rights as in "Anything you say can and WILL be used against you" This is sure to come up on Sunday over lunch! Ivan
