Did you know that most of those huge animated signs in Las Vegas actually have a room inside full of replacement parts and a full time technician who's job it is to sit and wait in case something breaks down?

The first cannonball fired at Fort Sumter to start the War of the Northern Aggression (aka Civil War) sits on a marble pedestal on the southeast corner of the Courthouse square in Thomaston, Georgia. P. W. Alexander, a noted correspondent during the war and a citizen of Upson County, retrieved it.

The Star Spangled Banner was initially a poem, entitled The Defense of Fort McHenry. I was put to music years later and the name changed. The music is an old British tune.

The roman numeral "4" on a clock or watch is never "IV".
It is always "IIII".

Pick a number from 1 - 9.
Multiply by 9.
Whatever the answer is, add the two digits together (27 - 2+7 or 09 - 0+9, etc.).
Subtract 5.
Find the corresponding letter in the alphabet (1=A, 2=B, etc.).
Name a country that begins with your letter.
Name an animal that begins with the LAST letter in your country.
Name a color that begins with the LAST letter of your animal.
Got it?
There are NO orange kangaroos in Denmark.
Forgive me if this wasn't your answer. Most people answer it like that.

Nor should you EVER try to pull the wire off the spark plug on a running mini-bike, thinking it will stop the engine.

Did you know that with just a little practice you can dominate the art of kissing the butt of your Tommy Gun while you fire it on full-auto? I'm not sure what the heck it's good for, but it seems to continually impress the Peanut Gallery.

The term "the whole 9 yards" came from U.S. fighter pilots in WWII in the Pacific. When ground crew armed their planes on the ground, the .50 caliber machine gun ammo belts measured exactly 27-feet, before being loaded into the plane. If the ground crew fired the entire belt into the target, it got "the whole 9 yards."

All Japanese names, when translated to English, end in a vowel. Except one that ends in an 'N'.

A good rule of thumb for gal per hour fuel usage in 2 cycle outboard engines, operated at wide open throttle, is put a decimal point one position left in the horsepower rating. A 70hp will use approx 7 gal per hour, a 150hp will use around 15.

Here's four more for you:
"cavernous"
"dangerous"
"filamentous"
"ferrous"
Something else you probably didn't know:
Tchaikovsky didn't care much for the Nutcracker. I know something else about him, and a lot of other composers, but that isn't family friendly information.

I'm pretty sure that we now know this thanks to Donald Rumsfield...
At least, we can infer as much, if we concede (as we logically must), that there are " known knowns, and known unknowns, then, ergo, there must also be unknown unknowns.
Keep in mind that the concept of known unknowns and unknown unknowns pertains to matters of facts, circumstances, etc., and not to degrees of notoriety or celebrity --- a washed out contestant on American Idol or X-Factor may claim to be a now known unknown. An applicant who never made the cut to get an on-air audition will remain, in perpetuity, an unknown unknown, but this wasn't what we, or at least Don Rumsfield and I, were referring to...
