The engraver didn't do a very good job, imo. The dog exhibits characteristics of pointers, setters and hounds (the head specifically). I've had 'em all,and it don't really look exactly like ANY of 'em. JMO/FWIW.

Okay, so it's a mongrel gun dog. About time they had some engraved representation.

Correct. That would certainly make it appeal to more potential buyers. Marketing did exist in the 30's and earlier.

p.s. If I had to make a guess,I'd say English pointer is what he was aiming for.

He is 92 people years old and lives on a 1919 Baker Elite single barrel trap gun.

If you look at some of the paintings of English Thoroughbreds from the 17 and 1800's you will see that the stylized paintings bear no true resemblance to a real horse.
The engraver hopefully did better work later in his career....

It sort of looks like a Pointer, but most gun dogs don't stand that way normally - so my guess is the person who created it was a "Poor Artist" unless he was using "Artistic License".

Definitely not a setter -- Pete99004 and I both have setters
(his are Irish, mine are English).
Not a GSP (German short-hair)
It is a "stylized" rendering of an English Pointer(most likely) -- the topline is off and that is not a stance normally seen with a pointer.
Considering the nationality of the engraver, who may have seen pointers in Hungary, Austria, Bulgaria, Slovakia (all areas with hunting traditions) -- it may be a local variation of pointers seen there. Which might explain why it is standing funny -- good news is that it is pointing towards the front of the gun.

Pointing at the ducks on the other side (Must be a "Bird Dog")
Here is the Baker with its Ithaca cousin (game scene in the flat oblong area above and to left of trigger):

Engraved K9's from that era on American shotguns usually take the generic form of either a setter,,or a pointer.
Ocassionally other easily identified breeds.
(Birds are even tougher to ID in most cases)
The surrounding scene composed of hills, fields, grass, trees, ect, often further gives hints to the breed.
Trying to break it down to which breed of pointer or setter is often strictly in the eye of the beholder (owner). Apparently much wasn't made of the wandering visual likenesses from the strict AKC mugshots then.
I don't think it was until the 1970's or so was the demand to engrave the exact breed w/proper markings and minor characteristics started to come about.
Perhaps a bit earlier,,but for the most part it was "Put a couple setters on the bottom of the action" till then.

"The engraver was Rudolph Kornbrath from Austria ,,,"
"It sort of looks like a Pointer, but most gun dogs don't stand that way normally - so my guess is the person who created it was a "Poor Artist" unless he was using "Artistic License".
"The engraver hopefully did better work later in his career...."
FWIW..The above three remarks would start quite an entertaining thread on any one of the vintage American firearms discussion sites..!

I have the same tapestry, slightly embellished:
It's dogs playing poker, with all of the disciples also at the table and Elvis sitting with the disciples -- talk about artistic license by the Korean tapestry maker -- covers all of the popular genres of those decorative tapestries

Am I missing something here, I see a line drawing of what appears to be a shotgun reciver. Maybe it's like those ink blots drawings you see what you want to see.

I think you're wrong about it being a pointer. Look at the slightly raised left rear leg. That's just an old hound getting ready to relieve itself.
