Default I'm not buying that gun. I'm not buying that gun. I bought the dang gun.

How many of you go through that. I did. I had made a pledge to myself not to buy guns in 2012 and I did quite well right up to the point when I stopped by my LGS to visit with my gunsmith. Right there on his bench was a S&W model 610. My grail gun. I asked if it was for sale and the answer was yes. So I go out front and cut the deal for purchase. That purchase was soon followed by the purchase of a Sig Scorpion. Just what I need, another 45.

One would think with the purchase of my grail gun and a Sig in 45ACP I would be OK. Alas the gun gods were not done with me. On a visit to another LGS I discovered a Ruger 44mag carbine had just been brought into the shop and of course I just had to have it if for no other reason than the tiger maple stock it was sporting. I discovered on another trip to this same LGS that a model 17-4 was available for purchase. Bought that one too. Of course I just had to stop by one Sunday after a trip to the range to find another 17-4 and a 29-3 with box and tools available for purchase. Of course I bought them. Did you ever have any doubt.

So for a year that I had planned to not buy a gun I've bought five of them and there are 3 months left in the year. Maybe if I'm lucky a model 16-4 will become available as its my new grail gun. One can only hope. Oh no more pledges of not buying guns as it just does not work with me.

You won't get much sympathy here for the addiction. You might try some medication to slow you down.

Let me get this straight. You found your "Grail" gun and another .45 and you are using this forum as a lamentation wall to express your regrets? I would be jumping up and down. I have NEVER been able to keep a promise to myself not to buy a Smith when I have the chance. Here is my advice, quit promising yourself not to buy. There, simple answer and you will feel much better about yourself. You should begin to feel much better in about an hour, or when you look at that M610 and realize it is actually yours. The advise is free, S&Ws are not. Great find! Congrats on the purchase.

If buyer's remorse ever sets in on the 610, just let me know... I'm sure I could find space for it amongst the others.

Geeze, if you are going to make a pledge to not buy any guns in 2012, at least wait till Christmas to do it!

You have less "won't power" than I have. I has been said of me that I have never met a gun I didn't like............ And congratulations on your personal failure!!

LOL I had that experience just two days ago!

Indoor range that I go to now and again had a consignment STI Spartan III 1911 in the case. I already own a Spartan V so I was quite familiar with the model. I got as far as standing in the parking lot next to my car before some irresistable force made me go back into the shop and buy it.

Yep. Been there and done that.

About a year ago, I asked my wife if she wanted to ride over to the pawn shop with me. She said, 'Yeah, but we're not buying anything!' I told her that I just wanted to look around and visit with Tim for a few minutes.

As soon as we walked in, he said, 'Got something I need to show you.' He pulled out a matched pair of 3" Model 66s, that a husband and wife had owned. They had to move into an assisted living facility, and sold him their guns before they moved in. He was asking $900 for both, or $500 for one.

My wife was holding one, and I was holding one. She felt the balance, sighted down the barrel, turned to me, and said, 'You know, I could work a couple of extra days, and pay for'em.'

Love that woman.

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt to prove it.

Seems like every time I reach a point where I (think) am satisfied with what I have now, something else always catches my fancy before very long. I'll see an add, a friend will get something new, or I'll see a post on a message board that starts the wheels turnin' and the next thing I know WHAMMO! I'm all sweaty for another gun.

In the beginning when I'd get a new gun I'd tell my wife that "welp, this'll do it then. This is all I need. So then another gun catches my eye and it's "really now, THIS is the last one. Nuttin' out there I need after this".

In 2010 I bought 2 guns in the same week and she went to the calendar on the wall and made a mark and told me that for one calendar year I could not buy any more guns or any bulk ammo.

2011 was a loooong year.

Finally though, I figured it all out. I've got the bug. There is no cure nor do I want one. Bein' me can be a hard job but somebody's gotta do it and I am determined to do the best I can. I no longer try to fight it. Fightin' it never did any good anyway. I now relish my addiction. I have turned it into a positive thing. We all need to have something to dream about and look forward to.

That new-gun feeling is one of the best there is and I look forward to it. I can be patient and wait for my newly imposed one gun per year buy as long as I know I have a lock on it. Anyway my wife loves me and wants me to be happy so in case of an emergency I'm sure I could talk her into cutting me some slack on that 0ne-per-year limit. How we define the word "emergency" well, we might have to negotiate that.

Went to gun show once with no intention of buying any guns. Just needed a few odds and ends, but absolutely swore I wouldn't buy any guns.
Just my luck, I came across a near mint Colt Series 70 Combat Commander AND the price was reasonable. I had no need for it, none at all. Yet it called to me.
So I look at my friend who was with me and seriously said "Talk me outta this!"
Of course he just smiled and said "Go for it!".
So much for support groups.

I think if I ever make that kind of pledge I'll wait till about 11:59PM on New Years Eve. That way it will be easy to keep said pledges.

Step 1: We admitted we were powerless over blued, nickeled and stainless steel, that our safes had become unmanageable.

Told the wife i was done for the year as far as
buying any new guns. Bob, my LGS owner and
friend called me out of the blue and said, I've
got in some stuff you will want to see. My truck
never moved so fast.....
He got in 3 Smiths from a widow selling her late
husbands guns. All 3 looked as new. A 586 no dash in 6"
a 17-1, and a 686 no dash 4". 15 minutes after i arrived
the 2 blued guns we're back in his safe for me on
layaway. He calls me first whenever he gets in any
nice old Smiths. I almost kissed him.....
The wife just rolled her eyes in understanding.

Really?

An XDm .45
Bond Arms Defender
SIG 1911 Carry Scorpion
Ruger Mk III (because I already have two of them)
I'm picking up my XDs this week also.

And seems like I may have bought the SIG 238 this year too.

And yes, I said I was going to slow down.......

So let's get this straight. You said you were not going to buy any guns this year and yet you kept on going into your local gunstore? That's like my late wife saying "I'm not buying any more clothes" then going to the mall a week later. You KNOW what's going to happen.

I am not going to say I am immune, either. I am currently between contracts, so I have no regular income. Like a fool I followed a link from another forum to a GB auction and looked what else the seller had to offer. A Hakim arrived last week. The only saving graces are that I got it cheap, with the bayonet and the bore is excellent. The money is still gone, though.

I am having withdrawal, I have not bought a gun in about a month, I have been thinking about buying a 1911 but changed my mind. Now I want a 2"barrel 686 to complete my 686 family. I have the money in the safe, Iwill be heading to the Trues Value Hardware (my local gun store) and order the gun. That will be the last gun this year.....until I get a need for a new gun.

Just make it a New Years resolution. They're only good for maybe a couple of weeks at most anyway.

Aloha,

Don't feel bad, I've bought 3 Smiths from the same LGS at Once.

Also cleaned out one LGS of ALL their 41 magnum ammo when they made

me an offer I couldn't turn down(41 mags don't sell in Honolulu).

Life is too short, enjoy it while you can.

I just bought an H&K P2000sk LEM in 9mm I don't really need also. I did plan to tone it down some in 2012, but couldn't get that SK out of my thoughts.

You regret it either way. Went to a show a few weeks ago and passed on a 4513 TSW. I was proud of myself for about 8 hours.

Been thinking about that gun ever since...

I cannot believe you are so weak, you have failed in even the simplest of tasks. In order to repent for your cowardly acts you must list the fruits of your weakness for sale on this site at once. I would suggest you list them at a 10% reduction from the price paid, to show you are truly remorseful. That said, I will take the Ruger Carbine, thank you.

Funny, I bought the 16-4 in in 2001, just because it lays around in the gunshop, where I had to fill up a gun-buying-permission. No-one was interested in this odd calliber here in Switzerland... and US$ 473.-- was a not to bad price back then.

I have never seen a lack of safe space stop anybody buying another gun unless they had kids in the house.

So after the doctors appointment at the VA I stopped bymy 2 favorite LGS's. One had the 44 Special Hand Ejector 2nd change but it was really rough. The other shop had 3 really nice guns. One was a ported 500 mag with a 4 inch barrel, a Talon Colt (Ricardo) and a Kimber Sapphire. The Kimber was simply beautiful. It's one gun that is simply too good looking to ever shoot. The Colt is on layaway and is my Christmas gift to myself.

LadyT, don't feel like The Lone Ranger.......I'm right there with you. I have bought a dozen (or more) guns per year since my brother left me a chunk of money, and I decided I had more than I had time to shoot, so this was gonna be the year I'd buy NO guns.

I don't think I even made it out of January, and I've added at least a dozen more since, including several nice S&W's. The safe is crammed to capacity, there are several more pistols hidden around the house, and I've just found out there's a really good deal on a pistol vault at my favorite local haunt.

Maybe next year.............
