Need an honest non biased opinion
At my LGS is a Colt Trooper MKIII. I think its a 6in barrel. It aint mint. Overall good condition but the pony is a bit scrubbed and so are some of the words on the barrel. However the barrel is clean, the finish is nice, for a used gun, and the price is $299

sounds fair, assuming it's mechanically excellent...
others may say it's too much, some a great bargain...
it's .357, yes? the .22 & .22 mag are more desirable to collectors but yours does not at all sound like collector's grade...would be a fine shooter & home defense gun...

can't really go wrong for the price...it's not a big collector item, but I recall Masaad Ayoob writing once about one at a range that was going strong & easily had 250,000 rounds through it...

Good gun for the money,
But why do you want it?

It's a good price. I'd say go for it if it is something you'd like. Even in its current condition, you may end up making money on it.

$300 for a Colt in 357. You almost never hear those words together. I would be a buyer.

I would buy it too. Is it blue or nickle? Might as well have at least one pony in the corral, can't hurt.

I am biased, I don't like nickle. If the finish is messed up, it tends to get worse over time. I would offer $250

I'd negotiate it down if I could, but either way I'd buy it. You can get it refinished and restored for $300. Then you'd have something,

I'd pass and look for one in better condition. Also, are you happy with the action, esp. the very long SA cocking stroke?
I also avoid nickled guns. Better to try for a King Cobra in stainless if you want a Colt.
Finally, there was some question as to how well the sintered metal action parts endure. The late David W. Arnold, the Petersen gun editor originally from South Africa, mentioned replacing the action parts in his MK III with MK V parts. I knew him, and he was a Colt fan. That should tell you something.

Others can nit-pick it to shreds if they want. You are not going to find a cherry Colt for 300 bucks. If it's mech. good & looks halfway decent, it's a good deal buy it.

A nickel MkIII 357 6" in that condition,,that's about the retail on the used gun market, at least around here.
Yes it says Colt, and they were decent revolvers. But a worn nickel finish and 6" bbl aren't the most sought after things on the market.
The MkIII was one of the first to use sintered metal parts for the hammer, trigger and some others. What ever your opinion or experience, the MkIII has that as a bad rap against them. Yes they had some problems with them breaking. Others have experienced none.
The only thing I've ever replaced in a MKIII was trigger return springs.
Colt went back to machined parts in the MkV.
I'd buy it if I could for something less than that if I really needed a knock-about 357. But I wouldn't buy it with any intention of resale at that price.
Just my .02

Doubt im gonna buy it now. It was nice looking and by that i dont mean the finish but the gun itself. Its look and shape. My problem is i like a lot of guns and if I buy this one a week or two from now i'll see another that I like and then get buyers remorse on buying that Colt. Its gotta stop somewhere ...doesnt it? i mean Im looking at this Colt for $299 a G21 for $400, a S&W 4566 for $399-450 (several places) a S&W 5904 for $250, and a few others. And there is always an old Smith 357 popping up somewhere. Gotta pick carefully without buying for the sake of buying

Ya know, I have never had buyer's remorse with a gun. But I do occasionally pine for the ones that I let get away.....

I have. They were cool at the moment and in my mind it fit a specific need but a short time later i realize that it was money wasted since i dont actually use it or something i already had was the same

I have a nickeled Trooper Mk.3 and it's been a damned reliable sixgun. I feed it mostly .357s (125gr. 145gr. and 158s) and it hasn't given me one day of problems. Downside; finding replacement grips can be a pain to find, and not many 'smiths work on these. Other than that they tend to give good service and at least doesn't have that lug hanging off of them! I had a Trooper III with an 8" barrel in .22. It was a good gun, and I enjoyed shooting it for a few years. I wound up using it for a partial trade on a Model 53.
$300 sounds like a decent deal for a mechanically sound Trooper. Post some pics when you get it.
