The Accountant

Was at the supermarket this afternoon and checked Redbox. Looks like "The Accountant" was added yesterday. I knew nothing about it but I rented it anyway as there was nothing else new which looked interesting. It was much better than I expected with sort of a surprise ending. It stars Ben Affleck, not my favorite actor, but he was very good in it. For the most part, no other big names. I think most of you would enjoy it. An unusual plot and lots of Kung Fu and Gun Fu. 4/5.

Sorry, won't watch it. Ben Affleck is a deal breaker for me. Not sure why he keeps getting work, unless he's funding his own movies.

I will admit I went to the theater for his last one (Batman/Superman) but in my defense I only went for Wonder Woman and because my kids wanted to see it. Terrible movie just like everything else Affleck's been in but Gal Gadot at least gave me something to look forward to.

But I will never fall for it again.

The Accountant is a decent film. Must pay attention as the time frames of the scenes might confuse. Simmons as the Treasury
agent was as usual effective.

As to Ben Affleck making poor movies; all actors get involved in bad projects.

But I love his Town and Argo, both excellent thrillers which he produced as well, I believe, Gone Baby Gone.

Town was especially well done concerning a gang of Boston
robbers. The scene of the "nuns" meeting the lounging patrol officer is a classic scene.

Affleck has gotten a bum rap as being anti-gun. He's not.

Although Ben tends to lean to port, he is a believer in the Bill of Rights and the second amendment. We must remember that like anything in this world, there are degrees of support.

Some folks are pro gun but don't think the average citizen needs a machine gun or three.

But all in all, I would rather someone be partially pro gun than not at all. Like Rosie who doesn't think private folks should own or have guns but has armed body guards protecting her kids. I guess she and her kids are special because she is such a super star.

I liked The Accountant.

The gun / action reminded me of John Wick... so I watched that again.

I saw The Accountant. It was pretty good, I liked it. Maybe not the best movie, but no regrets for spending the money.
Affleck is a good actor who has made some bad choices for the last few years. Many good actors go through slumps now and then.

I try to separate an actors skills from their politics. Otherwise, I'd never see any new movies. Although there are a few that I absolutely won't watch, I give most the benefit of the doubt.
Affleck is sort of borderline with leanings toward our side of the gun debate. He's not the enemy.

Wife and I watched it ...... enjoyed it.

Different and full of twists you couldn't predict given his condition..... loved the fully equipped RV

I'm not a Ben Affleck fan either, but this is one time you should make the exception and watch it. He is EXCELLENT in the role and the movie itself is very, very good!

John Wick 2 comes out tomorrow. I will be at one of the early showings!

Actually a 35' Airstream trailer. Did anyone else notice the Action Comics #1 comic book in his treasure trove stashed in the trailer, in addition to the cash, the gold bars, and the Monet and Jackson Pollock paintings?

My wife liked the accountant because she is an accountant, but I could have walked out of it. I use to love action movies but I'm getting really tired of seeing movies where the good guy beats up 20 people and shoots and kills 50 people and never gets tired. The whole time bad guys are shooting back at him from 20 feet away and missing every time and the good guy never seeks out any cover.

Hacksaw Ridge and Hidden Figures, about the early days of Nasa, were pretty good movies we have seen recently.

Again, regarding Affleck movies, I mention Town.

That's about as satisfying a crime drama as you could wish for.

And the characters are excellently drawn.

For those tired of action hero films, no cartoon figures in this one.

Exactly how I look at it. Otherwise there is literally nothing to watch. And this includes movies for the 70s up to today.

It was a good movie and he generally makes good movies. The Town, Argo, Accountant, Good Will Hunting...

I don't like him as an actor, and can't think of a film he was in that I enjoyed. Just my opinion. I guess its a good thing I'm not a Hollywood exec making the decisions.

I liked Sum of All Fears, Pearl Harbor and Armageddon. Probably others but I'm not going to devote a lot of time thinking about it.

It also annoys me beyond all recognition when I recommend a slightly "out there" movie with no so-called stars in it and the person listening says, "Well, if it doesn't feature somebody I know and like, I won't watch it". These same folk ALWAYS reply to the question "Have you seen..." with "Who's in it". What a crock. A movie is all about the story, the characters and their portrayal. If all those parts work, it could have been done by a gang from the local halfway house for all I care, I just want to be entertained.

I loved the movie, definitely worthy of keeping around for repeat viewing.

John Wick by way of Rainman.

I like my senseless action movies (e.g. Faster & Furiouser), as much as the next guy, but it's so much better with a few imaginative twists & good writing thrown in.

According to one of the "advisors" for the movie, that actually happened to him on one of his capers. When you think about it - a squad of pros with automatic rifles against one old guy trapped in his car with his sidearm that he likely barely qualifies with - that reaction is probably the only one that the cop would have lived through.

These days any movie that can keep me captivated past the 15 minute mark has a chance. This one kept my attention until the end.

My friend, there is something you must YouTube. I'm not sure I can link it. But what you want is "Oldboy Hallway Fight".

Oldboy is a South Korean torture porn horror flick (think Hostel, but not as dumb). No, not the terrible Spike Lee remake, the Korean original. I'll be honest, I haven't seen the Spike Lee one, I just pretty much assume it's as worthless as everything else he's made.

The protagonist is a sort of miserable guy, until an unseen adversary has him locked up in total isolation for 15 years. When he gets out, he doesn't so much want revenge as he wants to find out why.

In the now-infamous Hallway Hammer Fight, the protagonist has just finished extracting some information (and a couple other things) from the gangster who oversaw his incarceration. On the way out, said gangster's buddies show up--a long, narrow hallway full of thugs with sticks.

Gives a whole new meaning to, "When all you've got is a hammer..."
