A BLAST FROM THE PAST
Recently (don't really know why) I have been waking up at around 4:30 am or so. Nothing is bothering me, I just wake up. I tip-toe downstairs into the den and have been watching two 1950's Series TV programs on the "THIS" channel - Highway Patrol starring Broderick Crawford and Sea Hunt starring Lloyd Bridges. Not really the best of programs, but VERY nostalgic and reminds me of the good ol' days.........
Now all they have to do is bring back Racket Squad and I'll never sleep!

I have the complete, Adam-12, Combat & Highway Patrol series on DVD.
I hear ya on Highway Patrol not being the best program, it's kind of corny at times,
but it does, somewhat, illustrate, not only the values of that era, but those cars & trucks.
I just love checking out those old rides that were commonplace when I was a kid.

I have fun watching the old cop movies. The ones where they draw their 38's from their hips and to manage recoil, pushed the guns forward; like they are poking the bad guy and shooting them at the same time.

Chief38,
If you're up that early... go hunting! Get out in the woods, watch the morning light arrive and the animals wake up.

Saw an old episode of "Peter Gunn" not too long ago. Really enjoyed the program, much better writing, plot development, and character development than what you see now. Remember, that was a 30" program.
Not as flashy, but much better story telling.

In case you haven't guessed, I watch Highway Patrol too.

I've got a DVD pack that's a complete season of "Have Gun Will Travel," starring Richard Boone. Paladin was the thinking man's gun for hire; only used his gun if there was no opportunity to outwit his foes. That character became the inspiration for my handle here and on other similar web sites. Sure takes me back to the good old days to watch those episodes today.

Lots of old stuff like this on Netflix. Back when I was in high school in the late 50's, the football coach (who also taught) would always spend most of the class period of the day after a Peter Gunn episode was broadcast rehashing it. He really loved it, and it was probably more worthwhile and interesting than whatever it was he was supposed to be teaching. I haven't seen it for a long time, but it was pretty cool at the time, especially with his hot girlfriend always waiting for him to come home.

I also watch Highway Patrol, Chief Dan is so serious all the time. Scenery, clothing, cars etc Like taking a trip down memory lane.
I also think Sea Hunt had to be the worst televised series I have ever watched.

10-4, 10-4, Set up road blocks. I watched Highway Patrol when I was a kid, and it seems Broderick Crawford said that phrase in almost every episode. The theme song had a really serious intonation, as well. I also watched Sea Hunt as often as possible (seems to me it was on late afternoon or early evening, not long after I got home from school). I'm glad to see lots of the old shows coming out on CD, most of the new shows aren't worth watching.

When I was a part-time town cop, many years ago (shortly after the Earth's crust cooled...), I stopped Broderick Crawford for speeding.
Holy cow!
...and no, I didn't cite him. He was friendly, but a little gruff.

If I'm working and it's quite enough we'll watch Combat!, followed by 12 O'Clock High, then The Honeymooners.
We take bets on how long into the show it will be before Picadilly Lilly is shot down. They must have had a hanger full of them!
If anyone is interested "The Onion Field" is on THIS tomorrow night(Oct 16) from 10:00PM until 12:30AM.

I think the legendary Bill Jordan called that technique "gun throwing," and he recommended it.

The best and most enduring feature of Peter Gunn is the Henry Mancini theme...

Peter Falk as Columbo was the best detective ever, surely knew how to get under the suspects skin.
