Half moon clips...
How the heck are you supposed to remove the cases from these things???
I have a tool for the full moon clips and it doesn't work worth a darn in the half moons.

A shot-out 1911.45 ACP barrel works great.

carefully. Also not losing you temper helps. Seriously, I don't know. Next time I'll buy plastic ones.
If your rich I guess you can just do like some of the old timers tell me the military did, and just throw them away along with the emptys.

A small piece of dowel works well, just insert it into fired case and twist it out.
They also make a specific tool to remove them, but really the dowel works just as well.

I've tried the wood dowel and used my existing home made tool to hold the case and then used pliers to grip the clip and yank it free of the case. Just seems silly to have to do that. I think I'm going to dispose of them and just stick with the RIMZ and the Ranch clips from now on. Should have listened to a buddy of mine and passed them up.

I made a remover from a pc of copper pipe. I found the idea on this site. Go to the search section and type in moon clip remover tool. I spent about 5 dollars and could make about three. Sorry I dont have the planes or a picture but it took about 15 to 20 minutes to make.

Maximumbob54: If you're going to get rid of them, I'd be interested. I have a place for them. If you want to leave the 45 cases in place, that's OK too.

Do you have the tool that looks a bit like a round nutdriver? Midway or Brownells should have them. That's where I got mine. I can post a pic id you like.
I'd be interested in trading a few for some full moons.
EDIT: Here ya go.

Yet another good reason why half-moon clips are not made (at least I don't know of any made at present) and full moons are. And there also were third moons (2 cartridges) but I haven't seen those for awhile. Full moons are faster in reloading and are easier to unload empties from. As I have said numerous times, my best tool for removal of empties from a full moon clip is the inside corner of a steel MG ammo box. That does not work well for third and half moons.

I started with three of them. I broke one trying to pull the back of the clip with the pliers while holding the case with the dowel. I bent the next one and tossed it in the can with the first one. I only have the one left and plan to keep it to remind myself that when someone tells you something is a headache then trust them. Someday I will learn to listen. However, if I find anymore of them I will post them here for whatever I paid for them.

That's pretty much what my copper pipe home made version is.

I found them in one of the LGS's junk pins and gave a dollar each for them. I have to assume at this point they were never made with reloading them in mind.
And on a side note, don't get in a rush and use the demoon tool on a RIMZ plastic clip. I'm now one down of those as well.

Somene put forth the theory that they went with halfmoon clips because they were more efficient for storage & shipping. Maybe halfmoons let you "top up" while wasting less ammo?

Or maybe there used to be a tool that pushed or pulled the cases from the rounded "E" shape. It was easy to push them in with needle nose pliers though. It was just an act of Congress to remove them.
