The Walking Dead Errors
The wife and I enjoy the show, but even she noticed the missing rear sight from last night's episode:
He must be an amazing shot.

Tracers, of course!
Had a guy show up for qualification one time with the rear sight missing
off'n his model 15....He shot well enough to qualify that day!
Kinda like shooting a long bow or re-curve without sights...Instinkshuly.

Dave

I never heard of the walking dead show untill two weeks ago when we went to california to see my stepdaughters family. They are liberals and my 10 year old grandson cant have a toy gun. They were watching a weekend marathon of the show non stop. I started to tell justin one of my BS war storys of Ed Gein the killer cannible a relative arrested in wisconsin in the 50s. His mom sussh`s me up as she didnt want justin to hear such violance as we watch hundreds of murders and carrnage on the lectric telivision!

I noticed that too. I also remember in the first episode when Shane flipped the safety off his Glock.

I just pretended he had a G18 and was making sure it was set to semi. That way I could keep watching without getting cranky.

"Instinkshuly??" Dave, is that one of those long words they use in Kane-Tuk?
I see our hero also has the stock completely collapsed. Makes it a bit short, don't it?

Well at least he can't be too close to the rear sight.

I like this show but you really need to overlook a lot of stuff along these lines. My biggest beef was season one (I think) when they were leaving the CDC and there were hundreds of M4s and ma dueces lying about and they just bugged out without picking anything up.
The character Rick and his wife and kid are becoming annoying as well. Time for some or all of them to get put down.

OK, I wasn't seeing things then. I was going to go back on the DVR and see if there was a rear sight on that rifle. Plus the angle David Morrisey is holding that thing, he might have shot a crow in the top of a tree but I don't think he would have hit a running man. Oh well, another Brit behind the trigger. What does he know? Have to have a talk with my LGS owner. He sold them the prison guard's riot gear from the first episode and the military uniforms. Said right now they're his best customer and that Michael Rooker (Merle) was in the shop about 4 weeks ago.

It's fairly typical Hollywood stuff. Short of guys like us...Who else do You think notices or cares? Few people.
When the new season started they are now at about a YEAR into the mess, they have barely survived as well as lost members several times.
Yet when they meet the cons at the end of the opener, one points a pistol at them, He is obviously a convict, they have him grossly outgunned......yet they talk then NEGOTIATE with him.
Ridiculous.
You have to simply watch the thing and forget the errors.

I volunteered on AMC's website as their armorer/technical adviser. I think I could at least remember to put a rear sight on that danged M-4 before the Governor picks it up and shoots a running guy with only front sight while aiming at about a 30* angle upward to hit a guy running directly away. In fact, a lot of them could benefit with a trip down to the farm and some long range target practice with their reall pieces, not that Hollywierd ****.

the front sight is the most important thing to focus on and given that the old rear sight only gutter sight for the ASP was reported to be really hard to sight in it could probably work. as long as you know how to have the elevation and general windage look right to you from the training with a gun like it with a rear sight.
granted I dont like the Walking dead but it would be possible to shoot just with a front sight and no rear and still be somewhat accurate depending on how used to it you were.
and isnt there some sort of feeding problems the M16's have with shorter barrels? something like the 14 inch ones are the ones that are much more prone to jam than the 16 and 18 inch ones.
that also may translate into getting them to feed blanks, hell even the small detonics combat master had trouble feeding blanks on miami vice with the 3.5 inch barrel yet the 645 5 inch probably had no trouble at all.
I'm not defending the show by an means but it isnt that outlandish and reality may have played a part with the barrel length of the rifle.

Or it means their set armorer didn't want to worry about NFA items.

The biggest error is that it's actually a show on TV and still on with people watching it.

Of course nobody could hope to hit anything just using only the front sight.
That's why nobody can hit anything with a shotgun.
Now, that western, with Robert Duval and the herd of horses and the wagonload of Chinese whores? His nephew (Somebody Church, played Lloyd on Wings) had a Winchester 66 with no FRONT sight. Seems like THAT would be difficult to hit with.

Yup,
Ya know...I thinks that's the Ol English phonics of that, best I can recall right now.
The most common 'new' Southern pronunciation would be [ end-stink-shuly ] I's thinkin'.
About that short stock....I'm bettin' his wife lock'd it down like that for him.
Anyways, when I get one pair of spectacles that see's the front sight....
Can't see the back one no how, don't need rear sight to hold on top of fence post...Jest a lit'l left and low of Laramie Peak.
Su Amigo,
Dave
P.S. Hope everything is good with y'all...

It's make believe folks. Relax. I did send several e-mails during the last two seasons complaining about the lack of firearm intelligence but figure hell, it's a tv show vvjust enjoy it. Plus, it's good for people to see guns saving lives instead of the normal anti-gun bs
How about the flashlight silincers.....bwahaha

Unbelievable wasn't it? No scrounging to speak of(food, ammo, guns)just kinda going here and there. And Darrel and his arrows even when they are a fighting a ton of them off.
I'm a nit picker can't help it.Probably to busy doing that, that the lack of a rear sight sailed right me.

Yep. I noticed that right off. He makes a head-shot on the 'biter' as the gubner calls them.
Oh, and the con from a couple episodes ago? He's packing a 442 - clear as day. Threatening them right? And they've got 10 people or so all together and that guy has, perhaps, 5 shots...and they're NEGOTIATING with him...Oh, and they're armed to the teeth.
Yep, awfully annoying show. I would have already quit watching it if my son wasn't into it.

Factual mistakes - errors - in 'The Walking Dead'? How can life go on? Next, you'll tell me some of the political ads have factual mistakes - and errors - in them! Is nothing sacred? Murphy Brown wasn't real? I suppose Sponge Bob doesn't really live under the sea, either. I'm shocked! (TIC)
I awaited the first episode - haven't missed an episode - love 'The Walking Dead'. Great entertainment. My wife - who loves 'Survivor' (BARF!!) - said it was mindless dribble - then watched my first season compendium before the second season - and hasn't missed an episode since. I still avoid 'Survivor'.

I don't watch TV much, except for a few ongoing drama series. I've enjoyed "The Walking Dead" and don't pay too much mind to the factual errors. I think it's considerably more realistic than most action hero and zombie drivel, as far as weaponry goes, but it is primarily an outlet for entertainment not realism. The one non-firearm issue I have is the hand-to-hand stuff. If I was going to battle with biting & clawing zombies, there's no way I'd take one on with a knife ... that would mean I'd be within arm's reach. Give me a long spear or poleaxe variant.
