Question about receiving a gun part...the WRONG part
I've been looking around various sites trying to find parts for a particular old .22 rifle I have. On one famous auction site that doesn't just handle firearms, I found someone putting up a barrel for bidding or a Buy It Now. Nothing wrong with that since this site relented and allowed people to sell gun parts along with everything else under the sun. Except, the picture for the barrel being sold includes the receiver! Now just out of curiosity, if someone purchases what they think is only a barrel in good faith and in the mail comes the barrel mated to a receiver, what would be the procedure to handle that? Should they just keep quiet? Send it back and ask the seller to transfer it through an FFL? I'm just wondering if anyone has ever encountered something like this?

Howdy
Hi SS,
You can send the seller a question on that site. I would and keep it for record .
I would steer clear of it if it is more than the barrel.
If the seller says it is just a barrel and you buy it and find out he ships you a receiver too, you will at least have documented he said it wasn't before you bought it.
Good luck
Mike

I have contacted the seller and told him what was up. Told him if he knew what he was doing, then pardon me for bothering him but if he didn't, this might save him an unpleasant visit from Federal boys who have NO sense of humor.

Following the law is always a good idea, but I don't stir hornets' nests. I'd return it or forget it, but I'd never put my head on the block and hand them the axe. That's just me though........

On some of the old .22 bolt guns the barrel and receiver were one piece. Many don't know that the main part that carries the S/N is considered the firearm. Of course, many of the older .22's do not have S/N's. In that case the receiver is the firearm.

I got a message back from them this morning with just "Thank You," but I noticed he pulled it down and it's no longer for sale. I guess I did my good deed for yesterday.
