Default Boring Cusine

I am currently vacationing with good friends who have traveled widely. His wife has a travel agency. The topic of lousy food came up and Ireland won hands down. No seasoning and no imagination in the preparation.

So today I was almost ROTFLMAO when I read that Bill Clinton was going to be the next Ambassador there. I assume Hillary will accompany. A reward for her and Bill But he will have a long search for a Big Mac. Such are the rewards of the "Spoils System" When you are perceived as not doing your best.

I am a semi foodie I can cook well. My GRF was a professional chief on some of the big millionaire yachts in New London CT.

Thing is he is full blooded Norwegian. Norwegian food is probably worse than Irish which I agree there is not a whole lot to like . At least there is enough beer to kill the taste.

I've been to Ireland a few times and generally enjoyed the food. While not prepared with complex sauces or spices the food was generally fresh and locally grown. Fresh veg and lamb, warm brown bread, fish right from the ocean or stream are hard to beat. My favorite was smoked fish, bread and a jar of Guinness at a local pub while listening to local musicians play and sing. While staying at B&B's the breakfasts were usually a cardiologist's dream, eggs, bacon, sausage fresh baked goods etc.. I recall asking one owner of a B&B if this was what they always ate for breakfast and she replied " Heavens no, I shouldn't think you would live long eating like this every day!".
