Wink wal mart is nine miles that way

that is what the young man said in the pawn shop today(as he pointed south) after a woman told her husband they could get it cheaper at wal mart. she had just put a 1930 mfg win mod 12 back on the rack. i told her i didn't think so cause they quit making them over 30 years ago. i really couldn't remember when they quit but that sounded good. the couple had just emerged from their home under a big rock and will hopefully return there soon. lee

I think one of these folks was at the gun counter at the LGS the other day. He was helping his buddy choose a handgun for a hunting trip. He opined that a .357 was plenty of gun, because, while black bears would attack for no reason at all, brown bears are timid and afraid of humans. He informed his friend that he didn't have to worry, because Arizona doesn't have any black bears. Managed to resist the urge to offer to show him the black bear hanging on my office wall that I shot 50 miles from where he was standing, as well as to suggest that he go to Yellowstone or Kodiak Island to pet one of the timid brownies. Sheesh. At least he wasn't the guy at the other end of the counter muzzle sweeping everybody in the place.

Well they could be both.

Go into an antique store and look at a fine Tiffany lamp. Then tell the seller you can get it cheaper at Wal-Mart.

There is a Wal-Mart one mile up the road from my LGS. They regularly have folks walk into their shop who, having bought a firearm at Wal-Mart, are looking for parts or warranty work at the LGS. They too point them right down the road.

I have never bought a shootin' iron at Wal-Mart. Nothing against them, I would just rather support my local business, which was there for many years before Wal-Mart came to town.

fat tom- Never underestimate the power of human stupidity. Wal-Mart provides a service for people who think price is the number one factor in all purchases. I personally dont shop there, but they are the number one retailer in the world so obviously a lot of people feel differently than I do.

Lee Barner,

Wow!
If I was you, I would have immediately split to Wal-Mart
and GRABBED all those cheaper Model 12's.

never buy a gun at walmart, support your local gunstore. it's good that they did not buy that old 12 they left it for a real gunowner.

Haven't seen one but, I think it would be a good Idea for all gun shops to post signs behind their counters that read. If you do not know how to safely handle a weapon then don't ask to handle any.

If the fellow at the pawn shop was just looking for a pump gun, his wife was right. You can get "just a pump gun" for less at Wal-Mart, than you can a Model 12. When I wanted a 20 ga. pump I bought a Mossberg from Wally World. (I bought my other pumps from Sears, long before Wal-Mart came around.)

I buy guns from Wal-Mart, when they have something I want. I look at them as just another local gun dealer. The people who work there are local. The store pays local taxes. They buy from local suppliers.

The other gun shops in my area get enough of my business they got no gripe.

I never mention the W word in my LGS.

They don't sell firearms there but a lot of people buy ammo. I always check to see if my LGS has it first since his prices are generally fairly close and he occasionally has the MiniMag 40gr solids I like or will order them if I ask.

I don't think WalMart is a bad place to buy guns or ammo, but you have to understand when you walk by the ammo case, you are probably the 10,000th person who has looked in there that day. When ammo is scarce, they sell out at WalMart. There was almost nothing in there in .22 cal last time I shopped WalMart. I was looking for .32acp and they were out of that also.

I can understand a small gun store not liking WalMart, most of them don't like Dicks either. I have a good relationship with one store owner and he has handled several transactions for me. One time i wanted to buy a Rock Island Armory 2011 (rail gun) and he sells RIA, but I figured that unless I asked he would never get that one in. I asked and his dealer price was better than anything I could find online even when you factored in the sales tax savings.

The local to me Wally World stopped selling firearms for a while but now they are back at it. They wil actually let you order a firearm directly from their catalog and I've done that a few times. However I've found that if I pay up front with cash my LGS will do the same thing and be within 4%-5%. For me it's worth the few extra dollars because unlike Wally World my LGS gets used firearms in as well and all the really interesting firearms are used.

I was raised as a boy in a old country general store. My grandpa was in the business before the turn of the century. At the end of world war II my dad talked mom into selling the store as he didnt like working from the time he woke up untill he went to bed. Walmart wasnt a factor in selling out back in 46.
Later walmart and other huge chain stores put a jillion of small stores out of business. On the other hand they also employ the same ammount of people.
The factor that changed was the goverment itself taxing and regulateing companys out of business or they left the country to survive. Japan, the country that started our part in world war II, the one we whipped and rebuilt at huge unending cost, now its china that took over almost all manufactoring from this country.
Its a popular thing to blame walmart, not the goverment that caused the change. I dont blame walmart. You can buy everything you need for the best price under one roof. I dont buy our furniture or trucks there. I dont even buy new guns at gun stores as I dont like new guns.
The wife shops walmart two or three times a week. I dont shop but get me a rag off the magazine area and sit down on the loafer bench read and profile the charactors walking by. Come to think of it, thats pretty much what I did as a boy in ma`s store.

I've never purchased a gun at Wal-Mart, although I have purchased ammo. Wal-Mart's hours are more convenient than the LGS and for practice ammo, they are less expensive. For premium ammo, it's the LGS.

I used to make custom furniture. When I'd tell somebody how much it'll cost and they come back with "I can get the same thing cheaper an Walmart." I tell them to go ahead and get it. I do explain to them that they'll be getting a partical board piece of made in China junk with a plastic picture of wood on it that'll probably fall apart in short order instead of a custom, hand built, solid wood product that'll last for generations. The choice is theirs.

I try not to shop for ammo at W-world; I have when I happened to be there, which is about two or three times a year. I also try hard to shop the local gun stores instead of the internet but again sometimes the price is just too good to pass up. Speciality products are hard to find at the lgs so I have to go to internet speciality stores. If we don't support the local gun stores, they will go away. I've seen quite a few stores go out business, some great, the rest good and one a reall bummer store.

Remember when Walmart was the only place you could get a stainless Ruger 10-22? Couldn't even special order one from my dealer. I went in to buy one, and they had the same price tag on the ss as on the blued model. I bought three that day.

I sent the wife. The unique thing was they had 22" barrels.

AND I was in a LGS today and they had a brand new International 10-22. Kid behind the counter said they just got it in and they were selling them again. $300.00 ish.

I guess I am cheap, stupid, lazy, and unpatriotic. But I got tired (and somwhat annoyed) waiting for the guy behiend the counter at the LGS to stop BS ing with his buds and to sell me something. I go to Wal-Mart now.

I went back and got the 10/22 international. Seems it's a TALO special. It has a neat basket weave pattern on the stock. Still looking for info on it.

Yeah, I went into one of the "mom and pop" places that was supposed to be the cats pajamas of gun stores. The only other people there were an older guy who i made for the owner and some employee. They were BS'ing about something when I walked in, didn't acknowledge me. I'm perusing the used guns under glass, look up to get the guys' attention because there is a gun I want to look at. The older guy finally makes eye contact, scowls at me, turns around and keeps BS'ing. Yeah, I'll be back in there again.
