Default I'm bored

I am truly bored. After having surgery a couple of weeks back having my spinal column stimulator put in, I have been sitting in a recliner now everyday since. There is only so much TV I can watch, I don't really watch it much anyways because I think daytime TV is an abyss of "who's the baby's father", the ladies on The View droning on to a point that I would rather be waterboarded by the CIA, some Judge show where two people from the inner city complain about something the other did, or a rerun of something else. I actually have come to welcome the kids shows that my son watches because they make more sense. I cant drive for at least a couple more weeks, and I see the surgeon for a follow up in a month from now. I saw them yesterday so they could pull out the sutures (oww) and to check how the stimulator is going, which it is working, first time something has. I have run out of reading material but I ordered on Ebay a whole year of old Handloader back issues when ever they arrive. Then to find out my brother in law bagged a deer on Sunday (#%&!!!).
Still I am glad I am in a recliner recuperating and not doing it in a hospital, still my wife is not happy because she has to drive my camo jeep around, or even having to drive me around. I just need something else to do.

Get an E-Reader and you'll have a BIG BUNCH of books to read.

I was grounded for four weeks after eye surgery in the 80s. I became very familiar with my radio scanner, HF receiver and the neighbour's cat during that period. Old Tigger came to see me because the daughter in his own home was doing some child minding, so he came to see me for peace and quiet and I welcomed his company.

Dave, I'm puzzled. Why does your wife have to drive your Jeep? Is that the only vehicle you can get in and out of easily?

2nd that!

I thought for a long time I wouldn't like one of those...until my wife finally got me a Kindle. Now, I love it....I can carry tons of books with me, it keeps my place if I am reading several at once (which I do) and when a new books comes out (if it is on Kindle) I can get it instantly. There are also a lot of free books available for the Kindle. Plus, for us "mature" readers, you can adjust the font size.

I assume you have a laptop or PC access since you are posting here, but another thing you might consider is watching TV shows and movies online...or get some DVDs and play them in your laptop (if it is equipped with a DVD player) or if it isn't, the small DVD players with a screen aren't very expensive now.

Can you write? If so, you might try doing a family history.
Or drop a line to some of the troops.

Kindle is a free app on the computer, tablets, and smart phones. There are a mountain of free classics to read through.

After all the knee replacements (3) I've had and all the rehab time and all the learning how to walk time I know a thing or two about boredom. I found, like you, that day-time TV is best suited to frustrated house wives.

I discovered audio books. some of them are pretty good. Jay O Sanders and Burt Reynolds are great readers. There are lots of good ones out there.

Still got bored a lot but the audio books did help. Good luck....

Talking

Welcome to my world. My knee replacement surgery was almost 2 months ago and I too am going stir crazy. I DVR lots of stuff on NATGEO, Discovery etc., then play it back and skip the commercials which helps a lot. Alaska the last frontier, Flying wild Alaska, Wild Justice, Alaska State Troopers and Border Wars all help to pass the time. I have twice a day trips to the gym, pool or the VA for Physical Therapy.

All the drugs I was on kept me from having enough focus to read any books but as I've cut way back on the meds I've gotten through the new Vince Flynn novel, The Last Man (great read by the way), working on Nelson DeMille - Up Country and on the waiting list for the new Lee Child. The pooch is getting a lot of extra belly rubs so at least she is happy. Hang in there. (o;

No, her car caught fire in June and we have not been able to afford to replace it. That and my old Ford is still getting worked on.

If you are that bored Dave, come paint my house....oh wait, that prolly won't work!
I had a hip done last year. I don't know what's worse; the boredom or the frustration from not being able to do the things we all take for granted when we are "healthy".
I did a few puzzles, built a model car, tied some flies, did the books and TV thing, down loaded a ****-load of music on my ipod and all the other time-filling/mind occupying things I could think of.
More constructively I read through all of my insurance papers and investment stuff, organized all of my warranty papers and receipts. I even redid my will. It was amazing how out-of-date it was in only a few years.
I wish you a full and speedy recovery. Make milestones out of your rehab accomplishments. I suggest a big bowl of ice cream when you walk out to the mail box and back. Keep the faith Dave!

TONS of great old stuff on You Tube. Most of the Untouchables episodes are there...."Great Planes" from Discovery channel...Monty Python and Fawlty Towers if you like British humor....Poirot and Sherlock Holmes....it's all there. I hardly watch the TV anymore....

With my condition being progressive, I'm not sure what I'm going to do when I become more immobile. That scares me more than anything else.

I know what you mean David, after my last encounter with health care I thought I would go completely stir crazy as well. It will end and you can get back to what passes for normal so hang in there!
